Almost at the finish line with the Clow book. I spend sometime figuring out the chain that goes around Kero since based on the perspective it sits behind the sun emblem but I decided for my own sake to make a simple chain link and moved it into the model with proportional editing. I finished the wings in the back (not shown) and tweaked the leather texture. The inside of the book was made in photoshop based on a few images I grabbed and a few edits. The Clow card image comes from Book of Clow Project on tumblr. I added some textural elements from the illustration and kept their signature on the card.
I texture painted the lines on the ribbon, Kero’s wings, chest, ears, and head, front and back clasp and the holders. In the future, I’ll do all of those in Photoshop or Krita like I have with Praxina’s model (I’m in the middle of final edits with her and a rig soon!) The Clow text and the red gem textures will be changed last.
Overall, this project was strangely long for what it was. I spend around 6-8 hours from modeling, texturing, uvs, looking at tutorials for specific things and troubleshooting ideas. My favorite part of this process was learning Blender’s procedural textures and implementing creative liberties into the design other book. I really wanted to use a more worn feel to some of the gold decals although based on my memory of the series, the book wasn’t used all that much by Clow Reed and kept in pristine condition by the time Sakura got ahold of it. I also references leather bookbinding and played around a lot with the depth and size of the leather.
Fun project all around and the rigging and animation will be the last steps.
Textures used for the clow book. I started painting in substance, but I wasn’t happy about the results so I went back to Blender to create these textures. I followed tutorials on how to create leather and rustic gold and went from there. I changed some elements from the tutorials and appended the final results into the original file. I have two more elements to complete before rigging, animation, effects and rendering.
I started editing the modeling video down and it’s alot. I’ll break down the videos in a modeling timelapse and a 10-12 minute video on everything.
