I've slept on it and, the more I think about it, the sadder I get. I just can't move passed what happened to Big Pete.
SPOILERS FOR ENDEAVOUR FINALE.
You're telling me that Peter Jakes lived his whole life feeling guilty for giving up Big Pete's name, thinking he was the reason why he was "killed" by the Blenheim Vale powers at be, only for it to turn out that he was sold to a family in Lincoln and have survived all this time?
And then Big Pete winds up dead anyway?
At the hands of the police officer that Jakes looked up to more than anyone, at the hands of a senior police officer that he considered family. And the fact that Thursday showed no remorse about it either, going so far as to say that he would do it again because this boy was "nothing". That hurts so much more when we remember that Big Pete meant everything to Little Pete and the other Blenheim boys.
It will have taken Jakes a lot to join the police and trust a senior police officer the way we see him respect Thursday in the series. And it all ends with Thursday being just as corrupt as the officers that abused him as a child and helped cover up the abuse they all endured at Blenheim Vale.
It's all so tragic. I'm so upset. And I'm even more upset that we didn't get to see Jakes find out the truth (because I do believe Morse would have told him what he needed to know, because it was his life and his story).
Peter Jakes deserved so much better than that.
