There is a gift that comes when we open our hearts to seeing someone as they truly are, to allowing for their natural talents to come forward rather than squishing them into a box that "fits" our version of normal. Last night after spending all day unpacking, sorting and attempting to recover from moving, a dear friend cooked me dinner and gave me a makeover. Now, I'm not really a makeup gal, I own no color palettes or wigs, so when this opportunity was first offered my own walls of personal "norms" came up. As I closed my eyes and allowed for my friend to work his magic I felt loved and cared for in a way I had no idea I had previously desired. I received the gift of my friend in his truth, I received the possibility of a new look for myself.
