why am i shipping blaine and mike when they barely talked post s5-s6? 😭😭😭
what if mike and blaine were step-siblings? they could both have the same father who was with pam for a short amount of time during a break in his and mike’s mother’s marriage (or he could have cheated on her) and pam still made him be apart of blaine+pam’s life since she was already a single mother raising a child. mike’s father could’ve been excited to have another son to keep up the family legacy and blaine lived part time at pam’s house and part time at the father’s house. blaine’s last name was anderson-chang for the first 13 years of his life. whenever blaine came out as gay to the chang side of his family, his father didnt believe he was serious. blaine kept insisting he was so his father did ‘male-bonding activities’ with him and mike to try and make blaine stop saying that he was gay. when those didnt work, his father kicked him out of his side of the family (which is something he would do since he did it to mike and thats how blaine’s last name went from ‘anderson-chang’ to just ‘anderson’). mike was forbade from speaking to blaine, but mike didnt give up that easily and snuck out to see him. mike ended up getting caught and got in serious trouble and his parents became stricter to make sure it never happened again. when blaine got in contact with mike again through kurt, it just wasn’t the same with all the things that happened. they were able to be friends/distant brothers (sorta like cooper and blaine minus all of the brotherly drama) which explains why they danced together in glee club, were still in contact after mike went to college, and why blaine still was only close with kurt in season 3. things usually ended up getting weird when it was just blaine+mike together. whenever mike’s father started supporting mike’s ambition to be a dancer, he also reached out to blaine. he was really sorry about what he had done and while he didn’t support blaine’s ‘lifestyle choices’, he still wanted to support blaine in other areas. their relationship got better (see how blaine mentions his ‘mom and dad’ held him all night in ‘shooting star’, pam probably called mike chang sr. to come over and by that time blaine considered him his dad again) but was still tense and mike chang sr. couldn’t bring himself to go to his son’s wedding with another man. it was really hurtful when his father showed up to his other son’s(mike) wedding but not his. mike chang sr. still has a tendency to overly criticize his son(s) which causes strain but there’s still love there.

I absolutely adore your writing! I am hoping for a conversation between Blip and Mike (maybe right after Ginny gets hurt, and they are waiting for results) in which Mike just says, "I didn't want to leave. I just was afraid, that if I stayed I would have ruined her. And the team. I love her so goddamn much, Blip." Or something like that. Truth be told, I love the conversations between Mike and Blip so much... so if you want to write it, I would love it and eat it up!
Blip and Mike (Blike, if you will) are my brotp. I need an episode with them on a random roadtrip because that would be gold. Maybe they drive from San Diego to Arizona to surprise Ginny in rehab or something. I need their relationship to be repaired ASAP in season 2.
Blip stares at the floor, deliberately not looking at Mike as they sitoutside Ginny’s room while she showers. It’s a strange moment, being silentwith someone he’s been talking to almost nonstop since they met. After Evelyn,Mike is his closest friend, but there they say, not a word between them.
Mike quietly admits, “I didn’t want to leave.”
Blip snorts. “And yet you waived your no-trade clause. That’s one of thosecontradiction things, isn’t it?”
Mike doesn’t smile because Blip’s not trying to be funny. He sits insilence, takes his lumps because he earned them. “I was just...afraid.”
“Bullshit” the center fielder spits, finally turning to look at hiscompanion. “You were being selfish.”
“I was,” Mike concedes if only because admitting to his selfishness is justsomething he does. He’s not even sure if he actually is selfish or if he’s justaccepted it because it became his second name when he was with Rachel. “But itwasn’t about the ring. That was bullshit. We– Baker– Ginny and I– If I hadstayed, knowing what I know, I would have ruined her career.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Blip blinks at his best friend. Therewas something peculiar about Mike and Ginny’s relationship—even beyond the usualpitcher-catcher thing—but he’s written it off as unresolved sexual tension.Looking at Mike’s crestfallen expression, he realizes he’s been incredibly obtuse.
“I would have ruined her. Her career. Her whole damn life, Blip! I couldn’t…I can’t stop thinking about her. I…love her.” He pauses and his eyes fall tothe floor because it’s the first time he’s articulated that thought to evenhimself. “I love her so fucking much. But she’s got her whole life ahead ofher. She’s gonna make history for fuck’s sake! And she deserves it because sheworks her ass off for it. So I left—and I did it in the shittiest way I couldso she’d be angry and forget me because she deserves better than some almost 40has been who let his feelings get in the way of what’s good for her.”
Mike launches himself out of his chair and rushes the opposite wall, punchesit hard enough to make Blip flinch. “She’s here because of me! Because I love her so much that all I want is for her to smileso I told them what she would have wanted instead of what I knew was right! I knewshe was done but she knew I was done and she fought for me so I tried to do itback and look what I did to her.”
Blip glances at Ginny’s door because he’s not sure how thick the walls arethen gingerly rises out of his chair and approaches Mike. He envelopes hisfriend in a hug that Mike immediately throws off but Blip doesn’t back down, goesfor it again. This time Mike takes it and Blip feels him exhale and sag underthe weight of his grief and guilt. Blip pats his back then pulls back to lookat him. “Don’t run from her again. People have been leaving her whole life andshe shrugs it off, but it cuts deep. And stop selling yourself short. You’rethe best man I know—after me, anyway—”
Mike laughs a little and Blip goes on, “She deserves a man like you, and youdeserve a girl like her because she loves you too. It’s all over her face. Youleaving damn near broke her heart. So don’t fuck around and lose this, Mike. Assomeone who has a life outside the game, baseball isn’t even close to beingeverything. Having Ev and the boys—having something warm and real to come hometo—that’s everything. Get it and hold on.”
Mike nods at his shoes then looks up at his friend and smiles, “Good oldBlack Yoda.”
Blip finally cracks a grin, punches his friend in the chest. “I can’tbelieve you made me hug your weepy ass.”
Mike laughs as they take their seats. “Fuck you, Sanders.”
“A little longer in that hug and you might have.”
