This is the eighth film in the 26-film series. It is also the third of four Zatoichi films released in 1964, which was the most prolific year during the run from 1962 to 1989.

After a mother is mistakenly killed by assassins who were hunting Zatoichi, our intrepid blind swordsman takes it upon himself to deliver the woman's newborn son to the father. But will Ichi be able to protect the baby from the assassins who dog his every step along the way?
