The big and small of air cargo at Anchorage International Airport. Alaska Airlines has 5 Boeing 737-400 Combi aircraft and they have room for four ULD (unit load device, a standardized pallet in air cargo) pallets in the forward main deck and room for 72 passengers in the aft main deck. By contrast, the Boeing 747-8F of which Cathay Pacific has 14, can carry 34 ULD pallets on the main deck. Obviously the pallet sizes are different given the vast difference in fuselage cross width between the two cargo types. It’s easier to compare them by the volume of cargo that can be carried on the main deck- for the 737-400 Combi, that’s approximately 1600 cubic feet while the 747-8F it’s a staggering 24,462 cubic feet! #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #PANC #ANC #airport #Anchorage #Alaska #planespotting #airlines #Boeing #737 #Alaska #AlaskaAir #CathayPacific #747 #instagramaviation #N763AS #BLJB #splendid_transport #instaaviation #Avgeekery #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge (at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport)
