small grumpy king coming to a theater near you
Barou Shouhei 🫣
okay so this was actually supposed to go somewhere else but we're going to ignore that:
"Would that feel different if you loved me?"
Your hands still in his hair. It's a silly little game you play on weekends and late nights when his hair is down and free of anything holding it up.
"Can you repeat that again, Barou?"
You try not to move too abruptly but you can tell even from this angle that his cheeks are ablaze. Forgotten are the braids you had been putting into his hair, this is now more important.
"Forget it, I was just asking..."
"Yeah? Go on."
"Because we're friends and... and you know, Isagi's got a girlfriend too, not a girlfriend, but a girl-friend, you know, a friend who's a girl and he said that it's different, spending time, when you're in love with them."
"I've never seen you this nervous," you mutter before you can help yourself.
"I'm not nervous," he huffs out, though not pulling away. "I'm King Barou. I don't get nervous."
"Well, you did get nervous a little last time we-"
"Shush!" Now he pulls away, turns to you with flaming eyes. You grin and pounce, not the least bit surprised when all your weight does nothing against his balance. He does, however, catch you. Which is a first.
"Also, to answer your question," you point out, pressed against his torso and very aware of the heat that's moving back into his cheeks, "I can't tell you the difference because I've always been in love with you."
His eyes turn wide. "But-"
"I did confess to you last month too, Barou."
"You didn't!" He claims. "You said I was important to you and that if I dared to lose in Blue Lock you wouldn't be my friend anymore."
"Exactly." You dig a finger into his chest. "I said I wouldn't be your girlfriend anymore. You just decided to misunderstand me."
Understanding washes over his face along with a soft pink you could get used to.
"Now," you ask, cocking your head to the side, "Can I get back to doing your hair, my King?"
