Day 1/Night 1

We drove from our home in Ypsilanti, MI to Ontonagon, MI. 

Image 1: Other than for gasoline, this has been our first stop. We saw the beauty from the road and we just had to stop and take it in. This is the "Lake Superior Scenic View" at AuTrain Beach in AuTrain, MI.

Image 3-4: Yes! That's what you look like after a 9-hour drive. Oh, what a drive it was!

Image 5-6: We’ve arrived at our location in Ontonagon, MI. It is too cloudy for the sunset, so we sit and enjoy Lake Superior.

Day 2 (pt.1)

Day 3/Finale

This is our last Day in the U.P. We need to make it count. We decided not to give up on Lake of the Clouds and headed that way. It was amazing!

Image 2: After admiring the view for about 30 minutes it was time to head home.

Image 3-5: On the way back, we changed the route so we can look at “Kitch-iti-kipi” (aka Big Spring). It is a 41 ft deep natural spring located in the Palms Book State Park in Manistique, MI. Fun fact, it stays at 45º year round.

Image 6-7: We stopped at a rest stop located on Lake Michigan’s shore in Naubinway, MI. Sherri liked the view.

Image 8: A selfie to end the trip (it’s so hard to do with a Canon 5D Mark III), even though we had about 5 more hours of driving...

Day 2/Night 2 (pt.1)

Next morning, we headed to look at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness Park's most popular attraction, Lake of the Clouds. 

Image 1: After we went about 3 miles into the park, we started noticing the fog. 

Image 2-3: The fog got thicker as we got up the mountain.

Image 4: As we got closer to the edge, it became harder to make out things.

Image 5-6: We definitely couldn’t make out the lake. Only some trees in the near distance

Image 7: We were kinda disappointed so we continued with our day plan and proceeded to look for waterfalls in the park. 

Image 8: We found Nawadaha Falls. It was an amazing view. 

Image 9: But due to the vicious mosquitos, we left the park.

(Fun fact: There are over 100 waterfalls in Ontonagon County, MI)

Image 10: We found Bonanza Falls and then we called it a night (early night).

Day 2 (pt.2)

It was a cold morning when we awoke. We knew a fire was needed...

We woke up and it was a chilly but brisk morning. We decided to go out and see what the Ann Arbor, MI area had to offer us. First, we went to Hudson Mills Metro Park (1st Picture). We walked around the park for about 2 miles. I (Anter) then took an image of my wife resting. On our way back home, we came across a Barton Nature Area (2nd Picture). I took a picture of the Huron River in front of the nature area.

BE JUST

Day 2 /Night 2 (pt.2)

By now we had run out of food. And we needed it more than ever to fill the hole of disappointment (Lake of the Clouds in pt. 1).

Image 1: On our way back we found a pull-off with access to Lake Superior’s shore. It was very windy and cold but Sherri 💛 it. You can tell by her 😁. She 💛 the lake’s energy, beauty, and strength.

Image 2-3: I tried teaching her the technique of skipping rocks. It seemed like she learned well… But no she FAILED! 😂

Image 4: Sherri enjoying what was supposed to be the last view of Lake Superior before heading to the local grocery store.

Image 5: “Pat’s Foods.” This is Ontonagon’s local grocery store. It is also where we saw the first black person in the Upper Peninsula (shopping not working).

Image 6: We decided to explore “Downtown” Ontonagon. There wasn’t much but we weren’t expecting what was to come.

Image7: We came upon another access point to the lake. As we entered Lake Superior’s shore, this is what we had come upon (facing W).
