ICE is going to my hometown next week. This little tiny town with a university with a MASSIVE international population.

I don't know what to do. I don't know what I can do since I'm unable to travel and get there anytime soon. Not that my presence would change anything but I'm terrified for my old sweet Mexican coworker who was still learning English. I don't have her contact information. I'm so scared for everyone there.

Past presidents didn't even remember to put that half of the state on a map! Look out folks in the U.P. (upper peninsula of Michigan) ICE is coming and it's not the slippery kind on the road. They are planning to show up during Winter Carnival where eveyone comes out to enjoy the snow sculptures.

I got this information from my mother who still lives there who heard it from her neighbor who is an immigrant from Jordan. My mother is worried ICE will take their 5 year old special needs son and use him as bait like they have with other children.

i know i don't really post serious ish stuff on here but this is very important to me and im trying to get the word out.

basically a new mining company is trying to mine copper in between the porcupine mountains and black river harbor which are both incredibly important to my family's heritage (and also like. state parks and national forests) for nothing but exporting products to canada with no promise of return and an 11-year profit that will leave the already very poor community even poorer as well as depositing over 30 million tons of toxic waste into lake superior.

according to the NIH, gogebic county is already one of the poorest counties in michigan and this project will gut the tourism department (which is currently the county's largest source of income) that gives them a $12 million annual profit for what will be a $1 million annual payout at the most.

my family has lived up here since the 1870s and though we don't live here anymore, it's so important to us and our heritage and we visit every year. it's an absolutely beautiful place to hike, swim, camp, and visit the neighboring historical towns (it's also one of north america's oldest mountain ranges!!).

if you would be interested and willing to sign and share a petition that would be incredible and mean the world to me. im also getting in touch with the guy who's spearheaded it to see what i can do in my area with a larger political voice.
