We have to stop acting like racism is something we can just “end” and not an integral part of the systems that make our society function. It’s everywhere we look and in everything we do. We can’t just “end” racism with black boxes in our instagrams and “blm” in our bios. It has to be dismantled, in practice and in thought.

It's Alexander Dumas' Birthday today! Here's your daily reminder that the acclaimed novel 'The Count of Monte Cristo' was black in the original story, but was later changed to white in the movie adaptation. 'The Three Musketeers' had AT LEAST one black Musketeer, but was changed to just a solely nb cast. Alot of work published by authors of color, and the notion that the presence of poc is "forced diversity" or lackluster, is a ridiculous notion. Alot of stories that star POC were either pushed to the side or whitwashed to "appeal to a wider audience" and we are just now catching up. Unfortunately a lot of stories about POC are still getting told with a Non-BIPOC voice. We have to change that.
If you are an author, I want you to know that You Can be the hero of your own story, You Can see a hero whose language and culture reflects your own, and most importantly, Your stories Deserve to be told. Support your local creatives of color. ✌🏾💖

just a reminder that Black lives still matter even though the US election is over
Reminder, Black people suffer from depression. Black people can be mentally ill. It is okay that Black people suffer from depression. It does not make us, especially Black women, any less strong or resilient. But when you wash all of our concerns away by calling us that, you’re invalidating our struggles because they don’t fit into your perception of Blackness. Cut it out. And yes this is for Black people too.
She should’ve turned 20 today. If she were here, she’d be in the streets leading us on as she always did, and that makes her loss hurt all the more. We let her down in so many ways. We march on because her life matters too.
