Blog introduction.
I noticed that a great many chinchilla tumblrs are mostly dedicated to posting and/or reblogging cute pictures of chinchillas. Not that there is any problem with that and the people who run them are very knowledgable and do a great job of educating people when asked a question. But there seems to be a lack of blogs dedicated to just educating future or current chinchilla owners. So that is what this blog is. Now I don't claim to be any sort of expert. I've only owned chinchillas for a little over 3 year, but I've learned a lot since then and want to share. There are a lot of misconceptions about the proper care of chinchillas and I want to do my part to help correct some of those misconceptions. Disclaimer: I am not a veterinarian. If you have a medical concern about your chinchilla please don't waste your time on the Internet. Take your chin to the nearest exotic vet. If an exotic vet isn't available then take it to any vet that you can. Chinchillas, like many rodents, can crash fast. If you own or are looking to own a chinchilla, please look up the nearest exotic vet and call to make sure they have experience treating chinchillas. You never know when you might need their expertise. If I reblog your photo and point out something problematic please don't get offended. I'm only using it as a teaching moment. As I said, there is a lot of misinformation out there and many times we may be doing something harmful without even knowing. I, myself, once let my chinchilla Jack live with a rabbit for a time -- which is a giant no no. Rabbits can carry diseases that are deadly to chinchillas.
