Starting this business isn’t the first time I’ve decidedly said, “this is a great idea, I’m going to do it!” yet failed to follow through. What I decided to do differently this time, however, was to log my progress, publically, so that in a way my commitment wasn’t just to myself. After all, my talents are going to have an amazing impact on the entire world, right?! My friend and self-proclaimed “online community guide” encouraged me that the thing to do as an illustrator was to start a sketch blog. The idea developed into a mildly insane project of me launching my business in 90 days and blogging about it as I went. So here I am today, blogging about blogging, and my advice is this: blog your ideas, blog your goals, blog your progress, blog it in whatever way that fits- in words, in art, in mime! Whatever works, because not only will it keep you focused and motivated, but also when you’ve reached the end of your project (and the beginning of your successful career), you’re going to want to be able to look back and remember how the heck you did it. Maybe then you write a book about it and guide others who started off in your shoes!
