conventions like these were always the most tiring - and sometimes, the incessant commentary of the people waiting in line was always so... mind-numbing in ways that only those used to it could possibly understand. but imagine for a moment that you were forced to do things like this to maintain some semblance of a living, and then have the proverbial rug to be removed from underneath your feet if you so much as looked at someone in a way they interpreted as mean. how irritating - now that was the stuff of nightmares.
the bounce in this one’s step was already exhausting, and she certainly had a great deal of pep. whomever this mary was, it looked like they were in for quite a treat. if they were into his brand of creepy, then surely he could play the part for them - even if this woman was not mary in any capacity. but who knew? sometimes people liked to take on dual identities. some liked to lie to keep themselves comfortable. and others, well...

jonathan offered his usual, the trademark lopsided smile, and twirled his pen between his fingers in a circular motion. round and round, like a carousel - the carousel of progress, of course. he had ridden that thing the one time he was taken to disney world, and it really was a comforting show. so, he imitated the feeling with his fingers alone. round and round. and yet, that did little to ward off the restless exhaustion.
“ to mary, huh? well, if she likes my, uh... “ a pause, as he finger-quoted the following: “ creepy emo shit, then i guess we would be off to a good start. but you’ve already got me asking a large amount of questions from that description alone. “
well, not really. but he had to get through a few more people; even though it was a crowd, it was certainly not a large one. they used to be much larger. times were beginning to show their change in subtle ways such as this. tiresome.
“ you don’t look the “creepy emo type”. why didn’t mary come? maybe we would’ve had a fantastic chat, and you’d have been left all alone... “ he uttered, pouting ever so slightly. but of course, it was in jest - hopefully, she would grasp that much. hopefully. it was really a gamble with some people. “
