How I draw blood!

I draw with procreate, I made this color palette myself and this is the brush I use

generally i keep a pretty light hand when blending especially in areas where the blood would be thinner and a lighter shade, having your background color show through helps give it a more realistic look

examples of details

Adding a darker+thinner line in trails help make them pop, using a pencil or charcoal brush on areas where the blood wouldn’t be as thick/dried to give it a different texture

Other tips I can think of

-the thicker/older the blood the darker, the thinner the blood the lighter

-try to highlight with lighter reds rather than white

-think people usually advise against using black to shade but I use it for blood

-step back occasionally so you don’t overwork what you have and lose the shape

-references are the best way to understand how blood looks and behaves

You didn’t really ask how I draw blood but I thought of sharing anyway 💦💦

I paint with PaintTool SAI 2 and I use the marker pen when drawing blood. Since I use a gray background when answering asks I use a very dark red when painting since it looks better. 

I also do it in two different ways.  

The first one I use layer effect. You find it above your layers and I put the effect on Water Fringe and put the width around10. The intensity is 100. It will give the color you are painting with a darker edge. And then adding some shine to it also.

The second option to do it gives almost the same results. Instead of going to effect, I go to the mode and select shade/shine. 

If I try these versions on a white background I would not give the same results. instead, I use a lighter red to draw with.

Here I use the first version and use Water Fringe and put the width on 6 instead.

You can probably play around with these and find your way of doing it. 👍Sorry for explaining it a bit weirdly.  Explaining is not really my strong side. 💦

Remember that blood is a liquid and it moves and reflects like one too! I recommend looking at references like stills from slasher/horror movies! I hope these help ❤

thank you! i received stuff to hopefully help with them recently ;;. as for the blood tutorial, i draw it super unprofessionally and take massive advantage of drawing program features like shade/multiply layers and brush settings BUT heres how i do it more or less

i alternate between the two brushes and their density randomly! theres no real rhyme or reason to it lol
