Happy January Jubilation, @bloomingcnidarians ! I’m your Holiday Gifter for @masseffectholidaycheer this year!
I saw you liked Shrios - checking out your pinterest for them I got some inspiration and enlisted the help of one of my fave artists, @vectober , to provide what I sincerely hope to be an in-character scene for the two of them!

*belated hugs* I hope things are calming down & your brother is doing as OK as can be expected...
All hugs are welcome, belated or otherwise :D He seems to be doing ... okay. As expected, really. I’m giving him some space to do the things he needs to do (move, get his old house in proper order for the renter, get a new routine in play for his kids, etc.), but once things settle down, I very much plan on distracting him. Maybe we’ll write something together :D Thank you for the hugs, friend <3

we got real spring okay not just oh hey OH NO ITS SUMMER i don't think we can omplain this year
Oh, we’ve had an absolutely MARVELOUS spring. Even last night was gorgeous and I got a rainbow and even a few drops of rain and everything :D BUT I REALLY HATE SUMMER SO I DON’T CARE HOW ON TIME IT IS I’M STILL MAD ABOUT IT. *ahem* I’m also an adult and I can handle unpleasant weather with a sense of decorum and maturity. Pip pip, cheerio, stiff upper lip, etc., etc. *cries about it anyway*

jfc that is A Lot to deal with. so many hugs!
IT SURE TF IS! But! I’ve been really good this year. I got myself ORGANIZED, and I made HOURLY CHECKINS, and I’M ACTUALLY DOING REALLY WELL. So things are Super Stressful right now, it’s true. But I’ve set things up so that I can manage the anxiety, and it’s made all the difference :D I’m having lots of stress dreams where I get off on the wrong exit on the freeway that’s gonna make me late for the plane I have to catch, but in real life I’m doing just fine :D

....Already? We're lucky to break 60F over here right now
This is pretty on time for Phoenix, maybe even a few days overdue. I’M STILL MAD ABOUT IT AND I WILL NOT LET IT GO.

I got real cranky about it hitting 80 here today. You have my sympathy.
For one thing, I’m sure you have much more humidity than I do, so I’ll consider your outrage on par with mine. SUMMER CAN GET STUFFED.

it's not even star wars day yet wtf
I KNOW RIGHT. Of course, I have other expectations for Star Wars day (my best friend is due for her first kid that day and I AM EXCITE), but I STILL DEMAND CLEMENT WEATHER BEFORE BABY ZOE JOINS US, ON PRINCIPLE.
bloomingcnidarians replied to your post “bloomingcnidarians replied to your post “Genji!” I like McGenji...”
Oh for sure! Like my fave hc for them is a very close platonic/pining relationship during Blackwatch but it's actually the slowest of slow burns until recall. But I also make my Blackwatch Genji such a mess that he's barely functional so!
Me up until a few seconds ago: mutual pining is such an overused trope it’s so much more interesting to see characters struggling through communication than avoiding it
Me now, thinking about McCree and Genji becoming close friends, developing feelings for the other, and because of physical separation and fear of ruining what they have, pining after each other for years:
I mean, I literally just wrote one in Pink, but apparently there is a demand for more?
The car on the screen explodes. There are many cheers and a few groans; McCree obediently takes a sip of his way too potent screwdriver and shudders a little bit. The tip of his nose is going numb already, and they're probably not even halfway through the movie. He can't even check the time because the sofa he's been sitting on had already been packed tight even before Lúcio decided to squeeze in, and now he's smushed between the armrest and Hanzo's muscular bulk, and about the only part of him that can still move is the right hand holding the glass.
In fact, Hanzo's so close that it doesn't qualify as cuddling only because McCree's left arm is trapped between their bodies. If he turned his head, he could probably count Hanzo's eyelashes.
They are so thick and dark it kinda looks like he's wearing mascara. Maybe he is? McCree squints and tries to figure it out. They don't look painted. Not that he's got a lot of experience in the matter, but he's aware that there should be little clumps of the stuff if they were. Maybe. Unless Hanzo's too good for clumps. Clumps are probably below him.
Hanzo glances at him out of the corner of his eye, startles a little, and does a double take.
Huh. Their faces are so close now, he can smell Hanzo's orange-and-vodka scented exhale.
Hanzo's nose is nice too, he concludes. All distinguished-like, even with the piercing. And his mouth is nice. His lips look a bit dry and they fall slightly open under McCree's scrutiny.
Uh. That's --- that's actually kinda hot.
McCree swallows and watches Hanzo's eyes flicker up-down, up-down --- yeah, these lashes are probably just real. Not sticking together or anything.
It's really damn hot in here, especially next to Hanzo who's radiating warmth like a space heater. Probably all that muscle. And the booze, too.
Somehow they're almost cheek to cheek now. He's not sure who's leaning towards who. It's like Hanzo's got a built-in magnet or something. McCree's left arm is still trapped, maybe that's why he's having trouble sitting straight. Good thing it's prosthetic, or it'd be as numb as --- well, most of his body at this point.
Hanzo's tongue darts out to wet his lips. Why are his lips dry when he's been drinking? They've all been drinking, like, a lot. An awful lot. In hindsight, that's probably why McCree can't move.
If he turned his head all the way left he'd ---
--- yeah. He'd be nose to nose with Hanzo. He goes cross-eyed trying to focus on Hanzo's mouth, to see if it's still doing weirdly hot things.
The magnetic pull drags McCree in, inescapable. Hanzo's breathing fast and shallow. They're so close that he feels each little puff of air on his skin. He wonders if could be getting more drunk on the boozy vapors Hanzo's exhaling. He can't keep his eyes open; his entire body is numb, now, except for his left shoulder where he's pressed against Hanzo and the mouth.
Oh. The mouth. That's where all his feeling went.
Hanzo's lips aren't that dry after all. They do kinda catch against McCree's, but only a little. It's --- good. McCree's very okay with how it feels. The noses get in the way, so he tilts his head slightly and tries again, and that's even better. Hanzo does the strangely hot tongue thing, only this time the tip of his tongue flickers against McCree's lip, not his own, and it pulls sharply on the tight knot in McCree's stomach.
Hanzo makes a quiet noise that sounds like a surprised "huh". It's a good noise. All of this is good, and hot, and definitely not dry anymore. Hanzo's mouth is soft and warm and his tongue fits against McCree's like --- like something that was always meant to be there. It's hard to think of metaphors when Hanzo’s licking into his mouth like he owns it.
Maybe he does. This is now, hands down, the best thing McCree's ever used his mouth for.
Something explodes again, very loudly, and there are more cheers. Oh yeah, the movie. They're supposed to drink now. Seems like they've both silently agreed to ignore it.
The others don't skip their turns, though, and someone jostles Hanzo enough that their teeth clash unpleasantly.
"Ow," McCree breathes, opening his eyes.
Hanzo stares at him, flushed, mouth red and slightly open and wet. McCree can't fight the magnet; he leans in again. He nearly falls through the gap and into Zarya, instead, because Hanzo got up and is now standing in front of the sofa.
"I think I've had enough," he says. There's a group of superheroes doing heroic things on the screen behind him. McCree's mouth suddenly tastes bitter; he instantly misses the sweetness of Hanzo's tongue. A few people mock Hanzo for giving up first. Doesn't make sense: Hanzo's no lightweight, he could outdrink half this room without breaking a sweat. Maybe he just wants away from McCree.
He looks up at Hanzo mournfully. Hanzo takes a step to the side, but doesn't actually walk away; he just stands there and stares at McCree, meaningful, like he's waiting for something. McCree blinks at him, and when Hanzo rolls his eyes, raises his eyebrows and pointedly glances at the door, the penny finally drops.
The eureka must have shown on his face, because Hanzo bites his lip, trying to hide a smile, and walks out of the room. McCree jumps out of the seat like he's been burned, catches his glass at the last moment, deposits it blindly on the first horizontal surface and deaf to the laughing and catcalls, without bothering to say anything, rushes towards the closing door.

*covers your roof in a blanket*
WOULDN’T IT BE NICE IF THAT WORKED? (thank you) *hugs*
@servantofclio replied to your post “@thisonelikesaliens replied to your post “hey guys do you know how...”
I've always heard 20-30 years is the lifespan of a roof, but like you say, maybe that's just typical for the U.S. (and we live in tornado country, so severe storms are common-ish) I hope yours isn't too much of a pain to deal with. :/
Based on the smattering of research I managed, "average” roofs in the US have some sort of manufacturer’s warranty of around 20 years. (And yeah, tornado country and just more severe weather in general probably do have something to do with it.) If they’re put together well they could last longer, but that’s the “guarantee”. However, it’s sometimes really hard to collect on the guarantee, because usually you have to go through the original installer, and contractors/construction companies frequently don’t last as long as your roof should. (You can contact the manufacturer, but then you’re still going to have to pay for labor probably? And you would have to know who is the original manufacturer of your shingles or whatever, which can be tricky if you bought a house from someone else, you know? IDK it got weird real fast, and we hadn’t done more than look up average prices before the storm made ours wibbly-wobbly.)
There are longer lasting roofs now, but depending on where you live they may have either not been available or have been prohibitively expensive until recently. (Or even still ARE, the US is vast and strange on many levels.)
@syzara replied to your post: “@thisonelikesaliens replied to your post “hey guys do you know how...”
ugh. i hope you can afford something that lasts at least long enough for you! /and yes, def. something pref. which can deal with more wind...
The one we’re getting has a 50yr warranty and a 130mph/209kph wind guarantee, and once we’re past that we’re probably in something bad enough it’s reasonable to go ask the insurance company to help. So, hopefully? And if we do end up moving before the 50 years are up, we’re definitely keeping our paperwork so we can include it as a benefit to paying our asking price. *snorts* LOOK. GUARANTEE. IN WRITING. YOU CAN HAVE IT! :D
Also, like. They were wandering the neighborhood post-storm asking people if they needed new roofing/siding and handing out coupons and gave us about three different people and numbers to call if we need help (and have responded to questions!) so they’ve already got better customer service than the four other people we called on Monday trying to get an estimate for repairs.
@shadoedseptmbr replied to your post: “@thisonelikesaliens replied to your post “hey guys do you know how...”
******hugs**** ugh, roofing is the worst, too. They make longer lasting roofing here, but it's super expensive and if you aren't building a multi million dollar home it's almost actively discouraged
That’s dumb. WHO WOULDN’T WANT THEIR ROOF TO ACTUALLY WORK BETTER? It’s, you know, an integral part of the concept of house that holds me and my stuff safely. *hands*
I mean, like. The sales/inspection guy had to ask if we had an HOA too, because a lot of them limit the approved style of your roof so then you couldn’t even get the better ones if it didn’t “look right” ?!? I am so glad we don’t have an HOA they’re awful.
@bloomingcnidarians replied to your post: “@thisonelikesaliens replied to your post “hey guys do you know how...”
Solar panels on roofs is starting to be more commonplace here in CO and while I know the ROI would be good it's just so much money upfront ugh
The ROI here is still middling; like, it’s better, but not dramatic, which is why most people have to do a deal where they get their power from whomever installed the panels rather than paying for the installation itself up front; the more of us who do that the better it will get in the long-run though, obviously.
(That said, if we do ever decide to do that, we’ll have to ask the new roofing company if having someone else install things on the roof will void our nice warranty? yay? Adulting is dumb sometimes. *thbbbbt*)
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.Okay, so the obvious answer here is Shega (James Vega x Shepard) because until I read @juleshawke and @hot-elf‘s fics, I really didn’t like him. But those two lovely ladies got me completely hooked on that ship. Also, Liara x femShep - who I fell in love with thanks to you actually!!! As well as @marceline2174 and @jubshepchubshep. In part because of the art that showed them so loving, but mostly because you guys got me thinking about a ship which I’d never really considered. Your HCs got me thinking about a passionate and caring couple, and I fell for them.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.)Hmm, I think Tumblr made me aware of just how huge the Star Wars fandom is, and having dipped my foot in it, just how furious the shipping wars are within the fandom. Don’t get me wrong, I really love Star Wars and intend to start writing for it eventually, but it seems many people are really intense about attacking other ships.
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.Yaaaaaaay!!! Oh man - have you seen the Leather & Lace romance event I’m running? It’s based around my love of tropes. How am I supposed to pick just one??? :D Two people one bed is always going to be a favourite of mine, as if mutual pining, fake engagements too ... and friends to lovers. Gah. I love tropes.
Thank you so much - these were so much fun to answer!!! ^_^
I mean….it’s kinda their fault for not checking for loopholes in their system…
YES! Because at one point a pop up popped up saying „you seem to try to make a double booking please be aware and check it“ but then it let you continue nevertheless, so it should have been technically easily possible to disable the possibility to go one from there, right? And if they don’t... it ain’t my fault?
It’s a bit like when a shop grants you a first-time-customer discount and there is parallel another discount thing and both say “discounts cannot be used with another” but then you can technically still do that and of course you do it, right? And like – is that wrong? Because they could have written their fucking site the way so that it is actually not possible to combine discounts when they say don’t do it? Right?
And when that pop up popped up I was like “okay, yeah, so they found the loophole and prevented it” but then it turned out they didn’t and I’m like - ??? Yeah well then, guys?
Ugh. Still kinda feel bad about it.
(Also it says each customer can only use three, but then why does it let me use four? Come on guys, I will use whatever I can, eh?)
