Bloody London Character Task 003: Theme Song
1. Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys
She's just a girl and she's on fire
Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway
She's living in a world and it's on fire
Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away
She got both feet on the ground
And she's burning it down
She got her head in the clouds
And she's not backing down
Looks like a girl but she's a flame
So bright she can burn your eyes
Better look the other way
You can try but you'll never forget her name
She's on top of the world
Hottest of the hottest girls
Everybody stares as she goes by
'Cause they can see the flame that's in her eyes
Watch her when she's lighting up the night
Nobody knows that she's a lonely girl
And it's a lonely world
But she gon' let it burn, baby, burn, baby
This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire
This girl is on fire
She's just a girl and she's on fire
Out of all the songs that can describe Caitlyn McKenna, this is the one that best captures the inherent duality of her person---her high self-confidence in contrast to her non-existent self-worth. On one hand, she is an ambitious, authoritative, level-headed and responsible member of society; on the other hand, she is a chaotic, hypocritical mess of a human being, who is an actual disaster with an addictive personality and severe intimacy issues. She knows that she is talented, that she is capable, that she is intelligent; and in the brunette’s mind those things might make her valuable, but they don’t make her worthy.
Even more than physical strength, Cate possesses a great deal of mental resilience---but she is by no means invincible. Hers is a strength that frequently falters, revealing behind it a person who is not only far from perfect, but who is almost painfully human. A girl who is clever, but has a tendency to think much and too fast and get stuck in her own head. A girl who is determined, but can be unnecessarily stubborn when confronted with something that she does not want to face. Who is compassionate, but seemingly incapable of extending the same care and understanding to herself that she does to others. But at the end of the day, when she inevitably falls, she always picks herself up.
It is simply in her nature to overcome.
