Finally reading Astro Boy now that I finished Pluto and I’ve seen everyone point out that Brau1589 isn’t just an adaptation of Astro Boy’s “The Blue Knight” but is literally Blue’s skeleton, but I’ve never seen anyone discuss the implications of that?
Because Blue at least hates being seen, even by his enemies, his entire Blue Knight identity is built around the armor he wears to physically hide how his body changes. Blue literally runs away from fights multiple times rather than be seen.
And then there’s Brau1589, who’s entirely stripped down to his skeleton. The mechanics of a body he can’t control, a body he hates, entirely visible. Is there any comfort that in this state of utter ruin that this function of his body is almost entirely obscured?
Anyway. The Blue Knight says trans rights and I am fascinated by what that says about Brau1589 as an adaptation of him.
Interesting thing about the Blue Knight is that, canonically, he was handsome.
Well... as handsome as an anime character from the 1960s can get.
Which implies BRAU/BLAU could have been a hottie before getting all messed-up and left to rot with a spear shoved into their chest.
I've mentioned before but what we're looking at is probably his internal skeleton rather than what he actually looked like when they built him.
Imagine.

Another edit by me! Please enjoy.

Remembering that the Blue Knight technically had shape-shifting capabilities and I'm a little sad that we can't have that in more recent Astro Boy media.
Hell... I wouldn't even mind if they actually addressed the psychological and body horror aspects on the Blue Knight's part.
I still cannot get over how overlooked everything about the Blue Knight is in the original Astro Boy because the twist isn't the fact that the Blue Knight was composed of three different robots that were done wrong by one twisted man. The twist was that these three robots were put in the same body, two of which them were destroyed to made an example of, and that this was done so without the robots' consent or knowing about it by their creator.
If Tonto and Maria were considered deceased, then this kind of goes even further by the fact that they weren't even granted the right to rest in peace by their grieving parent. Blue Bon did not decide to become the Blue Knight until he found out about this fact.
The tragedy of the Blue Knight isn't just the cruelty done to him and his family, but also incomprehensible horror that was done to him by his own parent who he loved and trusted.
Count Berg may have taught Blue Bon Hatred, but it was his father, Dr. Ross, who's actions led him to absolutely give up on humanity entirely.
