Blue Dust is a photography project correlating a specific landscape to the work that alters it. The built environment is that of the desert of Bahrain, while the labour is that of steel workers. The project consists of a sequence of photographs of the desert, comprising a series of full-length portraits and four texts independent of the images. The photographed desert is the place where autochthonous citizens of Bahrain pass their holidays in order to get in touch with their ancestral nomadic origins. The desert is also the site of gas and petroleum ducts and high voltage trellises, which alter and accentuate the topography of the territory. The men portrayed are immigrants attempting to improve their own living conditions and those of their families. Through their labour they construct the objects that modify the landscape of the desert. In Blue Dust, images of landscape and labour coincide in order to reveal aspects of the construction of contemporary society.

Blue Dust è un progetto fotografico che mette in relazione un paesaggio specifico e il lavoro che lo modifica. Il paesaggio antropizzato è quello del deserto del Bahrain e il lavoro è quello degli operai di un’acciaieria. Il progetto comprende una sequenza di fotografie del deserto, che contiene una serie di ritratti a figura intera, e quattro testi indipendenti dalle immagini. Il deserto fotografato è il luogo dove i cittadini autoctoni del Bahrain trascorrono giornate di festa e di riposo per ritrovare le loro antiche origini nomadi. Il deserto è anche il luogo di passaggio di tubi di gas naturale o petrolio e di tralicci dell’alta tensione che modificano e accentuano l’orografia del territorio. Gli uomini ritratti sono immigrati che vivono per migliorare la loro condizione e quella della famiglia di origine. Essi costruiscono con il loro lavoro gli oggetti della modificazione del paesaggio del deserto. Il cortocircuito fra paesaggio e lavoro in Blue Dust è generativo di un aspetto della costruzione della società contemporanea.
