💙 Nature's Beauty 💙
No jewellery tonight, I just wanted to celebrate this little beauty I managed to capture while trying to photograph a pair of my peacock dangle earrings. Sadly I couldn't get a really detailed photo but check out those colours!
It's a male demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo), a type of damselfly.
#1170 - Metallic Blue Soldier Fly
I was just complaining about the almost total lack of insects at Dingo Rock ( with the exception of meat ants, feral honeybees, common hoverflies and mosquitoes, it was a puzzling problem all weekend) when I spotted this beauty hiding on the underside of a twig.
Of course, now there’s the puzzling problem of figuring out what it actually is. Tony D. at BowerBird confirmed it’s a Stratiomyid, but couldn’t take it past that. Some of our soldier flies are metallic blue, such as Lecomyia, but the antennae are completely wrong for that genus.
