13. Get out of the way before I murder you.
Julie had been studying in the living room when she heard the crash upstairs.
She perked up from the couch, setting down her textbook in a flash.
That better not be what I think it is.
Home alone, Julie couldn't restrain herself from stomping up the stairs, yelling, "Guys?!"
Rounding the corridor, the boys passed through her bedroom door and froze at the sight of her.
"Wh-at?" Alex squeaked, high pitched, "Noooo," he looked to the guys and they rapidly shook their heads, "We so weren't."
Julie crossed her arms. Reggie audibly gulped.
"Y'know, just, doin'... er-" Reggie shoved Luke to the front, "Tell her."
Luke shot the bassist a betrayed expression before turning back to Julie and smiled weakly.
"Look, Jules, we were just passin' through."
"Passing through, huh?" she pursed her lips, "So, you don't mind if I go in and-"
The boys huddled together, forming a wall in front of Julie's door.
Julie breathed a heavy side, "So you're really doing this?"
"I don't think you want to go in there right now" Reggie warned, which earned a slap upside the head courtesy of Alex.
Julie growled and stepped forward, only for Luke to make use of their new corporality and blocking her path. Their chests bumped, and Julie stumbled slightly backward.
She smiled. And Luke, like a kneejerk reaction, smiled back.
"Get out of my way before I murder you"
"Oop, a little late for that" Reggie quipped from the side.
"Julie-" Luke tried, but Julie shoved him out of the way and entered her room-
Smack dab in the middle of her room.
"What the heck?" she managed to get out, still processing what she was seeing.
"It was Luke's idea!" Alex blamed.
Reggie started frantically picking up the wheels that had broken off, "We're still practicing poof-ing objects, and we saw this guy on Venice beach selling flowers, and we-"
"We knew you were having a bad week," Luke explained, rubbing the back of his head, guilty, "To be fair, we were trying to get the one dahlia bouquet."
Alex sighed, "And we were aiming for the garage."
"So instead you brought a whole flower cart into my room"
"We're, like, so sorry," Then Reggie lit up and raised his hand towards the boys, "From the top-"
"No, no!" Julie cut in, having already anticipated another rendition of the 'We're Sorry' song, "Look..."
She took a deep breath. Centering herself like Dr. Turner had taught her. Regulate her emotions.
"Look," she continued, calmer, "I know your heart is in the right place. I appreciate the gesture. But please, please, be more careful next time. You're lucky I sat out Carlos' baseball game. Just help me clean this up."
The boys gathered up fallen bouquets and stuck them back on the cart. While stooped down, Julie looked up to a lone dahlia held out in front of her.
"At least keep one" Luke offered.
Julie smiled, more genuine than last time. She accepted the flower, her fingers brushing against Luke's. Boy, she was still getting used to this touching thing.
The boys (and the flower cart) poof-ed out. Then returned moments later.
"Good. Now get out of my room"
They didn't need to be told twice, and all three of them hightailed out of there.
Julie watched them phase through her door and couldn't help but roll her eyes. She supposed there could have been worse things that happened than her getting flowers from a cute ghost boy.
Clutching the flower close to her, she felt her sour mood lifting. The boys drove her crazy at times, but things sure weren't boring around here.
