These are not jellyfish.

(Comb jellies, unsure of species; they are not even in the same phylum (large group of related organisms) as jellyfish (cnideria) but are their own phylum, ctenophora)

And this is most certainly NOT a jellyfish!

(or even a singular animal, for that matter)

(A bluebottle, or pacific man o' war, related to or just a smaller version of, Portuguese man o' war. They ARE cnidarians, so in the same phylum as jellyfish, but so are corals, sea anemones, hydras - and the order this type of organism actually is - siphonophores. Each bluebottle is a colony of I think around four different "zooids"!)

this is so alluring to me. gang of seaside scavengers tearing apart a strange and ancient giant washed up on the shore. carefully biting around the sections of tentacle whose nematocysts are still active. i wish i was one of those ants
