I’d def say those are middle class here. I think of middle class as not being immediately concerned where your next 3 months rent is coming from. Idk how police and nurse jobs differ in the US and UK but I think of them as relatively steady, above minimum wage jobs which makes me think they’re pretty secure in money
i was thinking in terms of police and nurse not being jobs you need a degree to get (although I think this may have changed in recent years...)
also maybe it’s just here but i thought nurse was underpaid and actually not as secure as one assumes (and also didnt the recession fuck a lot of people with decent jobs into a bad place. i thought that like included nurses and cops).
i never thought of working class as worrying about rent, cause i assumed like maybe it’s lower paid but someone working class could have the same job for like ten years
(i feel like people who literally dont have a job or just not a secure job or one that literally doesnt cover their working costs i feel is like a new class that hasnt been properly digested or something. or working class as it used to exist doesn’t anymore and now it’s just stuck with an oxymoronic name because now being working class is more about not being able to work ... )
but like im a privileged middle class person so what do i know about the working class (and im gonna be poor my whole life yay).
