It wasn’t that Zircon hated the Diamonds’ Pearls, or that she was afraid of them, or that she was intimidated by them, or that she didn’t trust them, although knowing that the only times she ever had to speak to them for extended periods were during tense and terrifying times for a defence attorney, one could be forgiven for making such an assumption.
It was really more that it was, on occasion, very difficult to get past all the red tape in the form of papers, files and stringent regulations that acted as stiff barriers to Zircons doing their divinely assigned jobs, and the process could be terribly exhausting.
Do you have Form XQ874T? Was the document read by an Agate acting in place of a Chrysoberyl? Did you remember to have the signature witnessed by no less than three Sapphires and a Quartz of their choosing? Did you fill it in in blue or yellow?
Sometimes she wondered how much of the red tape was really fluff put there to make things difficult on purpose.
Managing a smile as she approached the Pearl who served Blue Diamond - the one she hoped was the more reasonable of the two stenographers - she offered a salute, arms crossed over in a Diamond shape, albeit weakly, as though she’d carried two Amethysts in each arm on the way here.
“My, uh... Pearl, Diamond’s Pearl, uh... Blue... Diamond’s Pearl... Pearl.”
Smooth. Perfect.
“It’s good to see you looking so... well-kept!”

“I’m not sure about all this — dancing.” Blue used the term loosely, even generously. Enthroned high upon the dais, not a gem escaped her gaze. But where once the members of their courts moved in unison, a thousand cogs turning in perfect tandem, now there was no rhyme or reason that she could follow.
It all began with a pair of brave Amethysts. They were the first to take the floor in their little experiment, this ball with no restrictions. The others that followed came slowly — jades and sapphires, even rubies! — until the ballroom was a whirling patchwork of colors blending and crashing together. Blue winced every time she saw a pair gems collide, though most waved these encounters off with nothing more than breathless laughter.
“They lack a certain…grace,” she observed, cheek perched against an open palm. Nothing at all like Pearl. “But at least they are enjoying themselves.” One more sweep of the ballroom, then her eyes lowered to the tiny gem at her side, her long time companion.
“Do you wish to join them, Pearl?”

❛ So, what, you’re supposed to watch me and make sure I don’t touch anything I’m not supposed to while Blue is busy? I’m not a child, I don’t need a babysitter. ❜ Although, arguably the other was older than her and far more responsible.
it’d be a lie, for her, to say that she did not know exactly how long it had been since pink’s absence. five thousand years had passed by, for sure, her now, daily mourning accompanying her every step of the way. alongside her , there was also grief: 𝖆𝖑𝖜𝖆𝖞𝖘 𝖕𝖗𝖊𝖘𝖊𝖓𝖙, with sadness, and overwhelming guilt. now, that weighted heavily onto her shoulders , her thoughts plagued by the extensive punishment she’d lay onto herself. she should have helped her. she should have protected her. and instead they ignored her calls . her pleadings, her own words: if only one could go back in time . . . she’d do it .
having found her place onto her throne, blue would quietly sit back, as if to hide herself onto the veil that was laid upon her head. thankfully the day wasn’t as busy as the previous one made them out to be allowing herself to spend some time in peace . with just quiet, and blue pearl by her side . ❝ it’s been more than five thousand years now. ❞ she’d claim quietly, though still speaking loudly enough for the other gem to hear her. ❝ and yet it still feels like it’s been yesterday... that s̲h̲e̲ was here, with us. that we were all just... living together. ❞ living.
her voice cracks ever so slightly, at the mere mention of the youngest diamond... a sigh follows blue’s words, her heart filled with sorrow, as she closes her eyes, a couple of fingertips reaching her temples. this sorrow... this... emptiness: ❝ i wonder how long it’ll last. ❞
