17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

wicked!! i finally got around to reading the book, and while i expected it to be decent (and was prepared for it to be different from the musical/movies), i didn't expect to have so much fun with it. don't know how much farther into the series i'll get, but i'm definitely planning to read more gregory macguire soon

24. Did you DNF anything? Why?

i don't think so? i usually know within a few pages if i'm going to vibe with a book enough to read it, and once i start, i don't like to stop, even if it's only to justify my being a hater about it lol. i'm too committed to my silly little charts on storygraph, like a book really has to piss me off to get marked as a legit DNF, and i don't think any did this year, so that's a win to me
