Blue and Slim?
1. Romantically-
I...really see their relationship as brotherly, rather than romantic. Both of them see too much of their brother in the other.
And...I don’t think they respect each other enough. Don’t get me wrong! They like each other. They probably don’t even realize the lack of respect. But Slim has trouble seeing past the happy face Blue puts on, and Blue can only see a sad, broken skeleton. It’s actually Blue’s attitude that is the hardest to break past. He can’t see Slim as anything other than a victim, so he’d never be willing to date him, thinking he was taking advantage.
2. Platonically-
They’re protective of each other—for some of the same reasons listed above. Blue sees Slim as a victim (a broken shadow of his own brother), and Slim sees Blue as unknowingly vulnerable.
They don’t talk, but they’re friendly. Blue tries to make Slim feel welcome, and Slim appreciates his efforts (and his cooking).
Ultimately, though, I’d say their pre-concieved notions about each other get in the way of a true friendship.
