Connecting astronomy and Sanders Sides?? That's so me!

Okay, main topics are : Roman Sanders, Patton Sanders, Janus Sanders, Blueshift, Redshift, and the Doppler Effect

Basic definition of the Doppler Effect is the change in frequency and wavelength of a wave when moving towards/away from an observer. Here's a graphic you're probably familiar with:

How this ties in with astronomy (we'll get to sasi later)? Redshift and Blueshift! Red is the color with the lowest frequency. Violet has the highest frequency, but we're using blue as the highest for the sake of it being called "blueshift". When a star is moving towards an observer, it appears to have a blue tint. When a star is moving away from an observer, it appears to have a red tint. Graphics again for my visual learners:

Next, we consider how this could be used as for color symbolism. Unlike the typical meanings of the color red (passion, romance), red means moving away here. Becoming distant. Also, blue means coming closer here. Removing distance. Not to mention a star approaching you is probably not a good thing seeing as contact with a star would, like, kill you or something.

We've made it to Sanders Sides! Consider the characters whose main color is red or blue: Roman, Patton, and Logan. Now, remove Logan because we're not focusing on him today. Roman is distancing from everyone, evidently. He's becoming more withdrawn and less engaged. He's less invested in achieving his dreams (See: WIDS). Patton is getting closer with everyone, focusing on the "dark sides" or more particularly Janus, but also Thomas. Patton getting closer to or more involved with Thomas and Janus was what ultimately led to SVS Redux, hence a star approaching being dangerous.

Also, consider Janus the observer. A star moving towards the observer results in it moving past the observer (if it isn't going to collide, of course). If a star is moving past the observer, it will go from blueshift to redshift. What I'm getting at here is that the result of Patton getting closer with Janus was Roman getting farther from him. (This particular idea is a little half-baked but I hope you get what I'm saying lol)

State of the Blog

At this point, All Expenses Paid has turned into a full-on high fantasy war drama called Out of the Maw. I'm going to hold onto that for longer and slowly work on it. Meanwhile Godhunt hasn't changed, at least plotwise. Most of the rewrites require fleshing out the setting and some of the characters. I do want to finish that one fairly quickly, and get it ready to release next year.

Getaway From Hope's Ridge exists in a more contained universe, and takes place over the course of one night. I'm still aiming for a Halloween release on this year. If not, then I'll swap to my mage x drider smut.

Regarding my new works:

Neon Blood is a NBxTM vampire political drama between the tattoo artist Oleander and the vampire prince Beryl.

Blueshift is a high heat MxM spacepunk action adventure romance between the racer Vespera and the robot Alix.

Deeproot Desires is a high heat gay adventure orgy between the disgraced knight Ursine and the monsters and adventurers in the Deeproot Dungeon.

The "plan," right now, is to leave Godhunt and AEP up on Ream until I have everything. That hasn't changed. But I might start working on/posting Blueshift and Deeproot just so I have something running on Ream until Getaway comes out. Neon Blood is longer and more invested than the rest of them, so that one will take more time.

Godhunt and Out of the Maw will slowly be worked on in the background, and hopefully I can resume those at the end of the year.

As for my short stories, nothing has changed:

Rain Check: NBxM high heat oneshot between my mage Vailintin and a slime they find in the forest.

Warm Buns: TFxF sweet heat oneshot for the TransQueer Jam, between a baker that has a crush on her boss.

Rock the Boat: gay fantasy orgy between an elf and a boat full of monsters.

I am aware that I'm a slow writer with few spoons and a short attention span. This could change at any time. But I at least want to make a concerted effort, given that my job situation is unlikely to change anytime soon and I really need to buckle down to actually make something off my writing.

💜! there's so much I'm always dying to talk about tbh, especially re: jujutsu. but i don't want to give people too many hints on where we're going with that. so instead i'm going to talk about one of my favorite interlude pieces - blueshift!

in science, there is a phenomenon called the doppler effect. you have probably heard of it before, most likely in reference to ambulance/police sirens. (for those unfamiliar:) basically, when a wave is moving towards you, you will perceive it at higher frequency. when it is moving away from you, you will perceive it at lower frequency. in sound, this translates to ambulances coming toward you going wheeeeee and when they are going away from you, they go whoooooo.

when this happens with visible light, rather than high/low pitch, we are shifting towards the ends of the visible light spectrum - UV (blue/purple, aka wheeeeeee) at the high frequency end, and infrared (red, aka whooooo) at the low frequency end.

blueshift occurs when waves of light are moving towards you from a moving source. just like the ambulance siren, you receive them at higher frequency than they were emitted at, and in light, this means it shifts blue.

okay, onto the gays - this piece is called blueshift because, well, they are getting closer! although satoru doesn't know that consciously. but the Six Eyes is doing some work for us here by noticing changes in the scene through lighting. it's a pretty subtle hidden allegory (well, the title isn't subtle - but there's not a lot of space devoted to it).

as their conversation progresses, the lighting changes. first, when suguru brings up "we should talk", satoru is actively doomspiraling about suguru knowing he's gay, and he thinks he's losing ground. he thinks that suguru is put off by what happened, and so he is 'moving away'.

then, as they keep talking, and satoru is in uncertain waters, they go into a tunnel. satoru isn't getting clear light cues. we're grey and white here.

they talk more. satoru still isn't sure how suguru would take the whole 'gay' thing, but suguru goes on to reassure satoru that he likes him just the way he is. and that's enough. so finally, in satoru's eyes, he shifts blue.

this was a very fun conversation to write, too, because it is truly a masterclass in absolute dogshit communication.

satoru's thoughts: i'm so gay, i am extremely gay for my hot goth best friend, oh my god what if he thinks i'm gay (because i tried to suck his dick in a linen closet), what if-

suguru's thoughts: gay people are normal, it's fine if you're gay suguru's mouth: "well being girly doesn't mean you're gay"

satoru's thoughts: fuck fuck fuck he doesn't want me to be gay satoru's mouth: "yeah ew of course i'm not gay"

suguru's thoughts: wait wtf is he fucking homophobic suguru's cursed energy: [explodes] suguru's mouth: "right like who gives a fuck about gay people"

satoru's thoughts: wait i give a fuck about gay people ?

apart from the gay, this scene is also about satoru's complicated relationship with normalcy and non-sorcerers. the reason that he doesn't fight back (against mario and luigi) is a messy mix of internalized homophobia and his overwhelming desire to fit in with non-sorcerer society. by acting like a sorcerer - either by using his CT or by pulling out his martial training, he feels like he would be breaking the 'normal' rules. and he wants so badly to be normal because he sees that as a necessary prerequisite for fitting into suguru's life. girliepop's been fucked up since day 1.

The sheer volume of his love for Suguru pushed all the oxygen out of his lungs, but that was okay, that was fine - Satoru’s body would get accustomed to hydrogen fusion. So he kept going, because that was what they did. Because stars burn until they die. Because Satoru had enough cursed energy to outlive the inevitable heat-death of the universe.

Messier 90, Heading Our Way !

58 Million light years from Earth, deep in the Virgo cluster sits this failing spiral galaxy with a bit of a story.

Most galaxies are moving away from us, as the universe expands, the galaxies move apart, but occasionally some galaxies, head straight for us.

In this case M90 has been accelerated by the Virgo Cluster that it sits within so much, it's now being kicked out entirely and heading in our direction.

The galaxy itself was a spiral, but is heading very much towards becoming a lenticular, and this is because the Virgo Cluster intergalactic medium strips out and quenches the galaxies within it of dust and gas, slowly creating lenticular and elliptical galaxies.

The inner core (in the above image seen by dark dust lanes and star birth) is the only part now active, outside of this a much larger part of the galaxy is stripped and showing far less features other than the milky arms and rare occasional cluster.

By the time it leaves the Virgo Cluster, there will not be much if any star formation left, just an anemic galaxy with a few odd bits of dust, heading who knows to interact with a very different future looking Milky Way/Andromeda and even Triangulum galaxy merger.
