Rick didn’t end up like Negan or Governor bc he wasn’t alone. He had Carl and Michonne and everyone else. He always had someone there for him in the times he nearly lost it and it shows. He is very flawed and naive as fuck, sometimes even straight up blind.

twd would be so different if rick had been on his own. and tbh i kind of think that’s what’s fascinating about it all? like it really shows the different affects of human interaction in stressful situations.

and yes, rick is definitely not a perfect character. he’s a little on the unhinged side and as of now, his morals are very skewed, on top of being naive and maybe just a little too hard-headed. he tends to think he’s right, and only him, and everybody else is in the wrong. but personally, that’s why i find him such a lovable and great character. if he were perfect it wouldn’t be interesting =3=

Rick also absorbed a lot of traits from the people he fought against, shit that would repulse him at the time. As time goes on he ends up embodying what he despises. His moral compass has long been gone

in the same way morales changed over the years, so did rick. (so did everybody for that matter tbfh.) rick in s8 is definitely not the same guy he was in s1, although he’s definitely clinging to that last scrap of morality LOL he’s just not as well-guided these days. everything he’s been through has definitely worn away a whole damn lot of his previous personality, and honestly, s1 rick would probably be horrified at s8 rick.

also, while i sympathize with everything he’s gone through, i really don’t think his actions should be excused because he’s the hero or because he had good intentions. he should be held accountable for some of the shit he’s pulled. but that’s a topic for another day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
