Modern Home Alone By Jen Lewis

Today, I am glad to bring an insightful yet short, webcomic story called Modern Home Alone by Jen Lewis. Modern Home Alone comes to us by way of a Buzzfeed article written by Jen Lewis. “15 Reasons The Plot Of “Home Alone” Could Never Happen Today’ reimagines Home Alone as a modern day movie.

Jen relays key moments in the movie where the addition of modern technology would have easily resolved a lot of the issues Kevin and family encountered. From searching for fake news stories to googling the proper ways to pack a suitcase, Jen envisioned almost every scenario getting resolved by technology. Here are some of my favorites:

10. The McCallisters would send an Uber to take Kevin to the airport so he could be put on the next flight to Paris.

11. Kevin would have access to Netflix, etc., so he wouldn’t be limited to Angels With Filthy Souls as the only option to scare the pizza guy and the criminals.

12. Kevin would use the “special notes” box to tell the pizza guy to leave his delivery on the stoop.

It should also be noted that Jen Lewis is also a writer/illustrator who started working at BuzzFeed since 2013 and has even illustrated the official Breaking Bad coloring book. So, if you’re interested in her work, be sure to contact her.

Today on Story Time we have one of my favorite stories I’ve read in a long time. Black Mudpuppy by Ethan Kocak. Today we will get to see the origin of an ancient Aztec God who will become one of the greatest anti-heroes ever created, Xolotl as well as the start to one of the funniest adventures written as he teams up with Simon, who runs a pet store. Together they will go on to tackle adversaries such as evil mimes and dinosaurs.

So enjoy as we watch and see Xolotl try and reclaim his former glory by appealing to Quetzalcoatl and learn a thing or two about not being a power hungry asshole.

You Can’t Live With Out Friends

Pear Shaped Comics is a weekly web comic series that was created by Kevin Kuramura. Every Tuesday Kevin shares a new creation from his series with us and each one is a new delight into his creatively demented mind. Kevin details how he got the name of his series after the British saying which is the same name.

“British use of the term “pear-shaped,” which describes something that has gone horribly wrong. If you prefer to think of a rich, sonorous voice or a big booty lady or even a literal pear you go right ahead.” 

There are different styles of humor in the series. From surrealist humor too, at times, dark humor. There is a lot to love about Pear Shaped Comics so feel free to check bout Kevin’s series.

This here is a page from the newly release series Who Is The Girl?. The series was created by Cary Polkovitz who is the author of a series of books called Often Overlooked which consist of  a collection of short stories that revolve around everyday objects seen throughout the world.

Who Is The Girl is a cyberpunk/sci-fi webcomic series that just started running back in mid-November. Who Is The Girl follows a cam girl named Sundara Laraki. The gritty look of series reminds me a lot of Kazuto Nakazawa animated works. Since the series just started it has yet to have  go in-depth into the plot. A lot of it is still developing so it’s hard to say where the series can go since the cyberpunk and sci-fi elements have yet to be introduced, not that I’m complaining. I can appreciate the type of story telling present within Who Is The Girl.
