THE FROST TICKLED HIS NOSE. Winter has set in, with it the chill and tingle of the snow at his legs as he stubbornly pushed through it. Donning a coat of straw, Kubo makes his way down the mountain trail, towards the village he called his home.
He hated to be out in this weather, but it would not be the first time, nor the last, he'd be forced to traverse in the frigid cold. The village is as lively as ever downhill, and he knows that as soon as he had gotten what he needed, he could return home to a cozy fire and blankets to stave off the chill.
As he makes his way down, however, Kubo spots something in the distance; a tall silhouette, donning a wide hat. Their figure is almost reminiscent of his aunts—which sends a chill down his spine, far colder than any snow or ice.
He blinks away his uncertainty. No, they're dead. Months had passed since his grandfather joined his side on this plane. Though the memories still felt like raw wounds, he was beginning to coexist with them. And he must press on.
Reluctantly, he continues down the trail, uncertain of where this person was going. Uncertain of where they came from. Until he is close to passing them by.
