nurse stuck in an elevator with jack abbot after an established period of tension workplace tension pls i am itching <3
ooooOooOooO YUMMYYY
—
omg okay so i’m thinking about how the elevator at ptmc just gave out a little jolt before the doors slid shut.
it was supposed to be a quick ride… it really was!
she was just getting a snack from her favorite vending machine on the fifth floor. it would only take, what? two minutes at most?
but the lights flickered once… twice… and then held steady in a dim, humming stillness that made everything feel too closed in.
she sighed slowly, carrying the weight of her double shift heavy on her shoulders. and—
“of course,” a familiar voice broke her from her thoughts.
she didn’t have to look to know who it was.
she turned to find him standing with his hands lazily at his sides. his stance calm in that infuriating way he always had.
the tension between them had been building for weeks. small things at first. a glance that was too long in the supply room. the way she’d started noticing when he wasn’t looking at her… and then definitely noticing when he was.
they were professional though. always. they respected each other too much.
the elevator gave a faint shudder and she finally glanced at him fully. “please don’t tell me you’re about to diagnose this damn elevator.”
he paused with a smirk hanging from his lips.
then, without looking at her he says, “it’s probably the control system.”
“really?” she let out a small laugh.
it surprised her more than it should have which caused her to shift her weight, trying to ignore how the confined space made her feel unbalanced.
the scent of antiseptic still clinging to the both of them. and he was suddenly much too aware of her presence for someone who pretended he wasn’t.
“you always like this?” she asked.
“like what?” he scoffed.
“confident in machines that are actively failing?” she said, her voice quivering slightly.
“only when i’m trapped in them with nurses who talk too much.”
“woooow.” she gasped.
“i’m kidding” jack laughed.
“i’m sure you are.”
a soft ding echoed somewhere above them but nothing changed causing her to sigh and lean lightly against the wall. “we’re actually stuck. ”
“yeah.”
“oh great.”
jack gave her a nod. then, quietly he said, “you’re not panicking.”
it wasn’t a question.
she looked at him again. “s-should i be?”
“no,” he said quickly. then softer, “just that most people don’t like confined spaces.”
she shrugged, trying to keep it light. “i’ve seen worse things than elevators break.”
his gaze held for a second too long.
“i know,” he said knowingly.
and that did it, because that wasn’t about elevators.
that was about shifts where they had stayed too late. patients they both refused to leave. and moments they’d seen at their most exhausted and still trudging along.
the elevator lights hummed softly overhead.
she cleared your throat. “so, uh.. how long do you think until someone realizes we’re missing?”
“depends,” he said, moving closer to her. slow and primal.
“on what?” she trembled, her back hitting against the cool metal wall as she watched his biceps flex under his scrub shirt.
“on if anyone’s actually paying attention today.”
she let out a breathless laugh as he towered over her. her lips going dry as she watched him lick his lips.
and then, almost reluctantly, she said, “you know you’re doing that thing again.”
“what thing?” he wanted to know.
“where you act like you’re not the reason half the residents are intimidated by you.” she blabbed.
jack tried to his best to hide a smirk that was forming, but failed miserably as he turned to look towards the control panel.
“i don’t know what your talking about.” he hummed, turning back to look at her… and her pretty plump lips.
“see! that’s the problem.”
he stared at her, but it felt different than all the other times he had looked at her. he crossed his arms and pressed his lip tighter while she looked up at him through her lashes.
then, the elevator gave another weak shake causing her to instinctively brace against the wall.
so did he.
except his hand landed near hers. deathly close but not touching. as if he was teasing. but she didn’t make a move to move her hand away.
she didn’t look at him when she spoke up again. “you know… if this is some kind of cosmic joke, it’s not funny.”
he laughed lowly— his voice dropping deep, “i didn’t plan this.” he said, closing the distance between them.
for a moment, neither of them said anything. the air felt different now. like the elevator had decided to stop pretending it was just a machine and had started paying attention too.
then, softly, he said, “i wish i did though.”
“what?” she asked dumbfounded.
“the next time i want to get you all alone i should trip the breaker.”
her breath caught slightly, but she masked it quickly.
“shut up.”
jack just shrugged.
and somewhere above them, a distant clang echoed through the shaft like the building remembered that they existed.
neither of then moved.
because whatever this was between them had finally stopped having enough space to stay unspoken.
Blurb inspiration coming your way fit for the holiday! Pick whatever floats your goat 🐐
(it’s actually just all lyrics from TS - New Years Day)
“I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day.”
A man of your choice helping a Batsis!reader to clean up after a NYE party (oh! Or Bruce and your southern mom reader!)
“There’s glitter on the floor after the party.”
Same as above
“Polaroids on the hardwood floor, you and me forevermore.”
I really see this one being a Roy Harper thing specifically. He seems mushy and sentimental about that shit.
“Hold on to the memories they will hold on to you, and I will hold on to you.”
Idk. Just a good line.
Did any of this help? 😂 hope so. Love you and happy new years babe!
you can't flaunt bruce and southern!batmom in front of my face and expect me not to write them 😌
so i'm gonna use both of the lyrics you picked for them!!
"There's glitter on the floor after the party." & "I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day."
p.s. THANK YOU I'M GLAD YOU LIKE IT AND YES THIS MADE ME VERY VERY HAPPY (also wonderful song choice ilysm), also might come back and use the roy lyrics bc that's so freaking cute hello???
a/n: no warnings or formalities or anything bc it's just a tiny blurb sorry not sorry y'all it's just fluff 😭
"Alfred's gunna put itchin' powder in you Batsuit or somethin' for all this," she grins up at her husband. He knew she had a good point. A New Year's party was enough to clean up on its own, let alone with the addition of the glitter strewn about the floor, thanks to their eldest child.
"Most likely, but the kids seemed happy. I'd deem it worth it," he replies easily. A younger version of himself would despise how soft he's become, but this version embraces it. He could deal with Alfred's vengeance if it meant his wife and children had a good time (which says a lot, because the old butler could be a scary, scary man when he wanted to be). He sets the empty champagne bottle he'd just picked up on a nearby table, deciding that showing his wife some affection was a much better use of his time.
He moves toward her, removing the trash bag from her hands and turning her to face him. He's quick to let his hands rest on her waist, almost like it's an instinct at this point. In the same way, her arms are drawn to rest on his shoulders like two magnets pulling toward each other. She smiles at him warmly, the way she always does.
"You're gunna be late for patrol, darlin'. You've already pushed it back this late..."
"Maybe, so, but I was so busy corraling our little genius son into actually sleeping for once that I missed kissing my beautiful wife at midnight." He raises a brow at her playfully, that knowing smirk making its way onto his criminally handsome face.
"You poor, poor man. Cain't survive, can ya?" Her smile turns mischievous, knowing she has one of the most powerful men in Gotham wrapped around her finger.

⸺ the one where he's never romantically got flowers, but Yn is about to change that.
✓ none, just tooth-rotting fluff.

"Hey, you," Yn smiled when Lando opened the door to his house. She had a few bags on her hands, along with a huge bouquet of flowers.
It took him a few seconds to take his eyes off of her and step aside so she could get in, but who could blame Lando? Yn looked fantastic in a blue flowy dress, and besides, it was their first time celebrating Valentine's together. He wanted to keep that image of her engraved on his mind.
"Hi, angel."
"This is for you," she pressed the bouquet to his chest, leaving a quick kiss on his lips.
"For me?" He arched his brows in confusion.
"Yes, for you. You've never got flowers before?" She chuckled, taking off her shoes and walking to the living room.
"Actually, no," and it was true. He had never gotten flowers romantically before. He had given them sure, but never received them. He got them from fans and a few sponsors in an event or two, but those bouquets were more like a side thing that came with either a partnership or a medal. Aside from that, most people believed that men give flowers, not receive them. This belief should be changed, sure, and Yn was onto it, apparently. "Why'd you get me flowers?"
"I got you a potted plant and that game you wanted too," Yn explained, after dropping the bags on the floor of his living room. "Didn't you like them?" she bit her lip and Lando rushed to her side, shaking his head.
"No, no, babe, I loved them. It's just... I've never got flowers like this before, I don't know how to react, it's cute."
"I'm glad to be your first then," the smile that she flashed him made his legs shake slightly. At times Lando felt that Yn was able to make him all jello, from his body to his heart. She had the key to it.
"I'm gonna put these into a vase," the McLaren driver announced, leaning down to capture Yn's lips into a proper kiss. "And then we're gonna finish the cake I started since you got here earlier than I thought."
"We're decorating a cake?" Yn asked and Lando couldn't contain his smile with how excited she sounded.
"Yup, and then we're opening the gifts."
"The cake and your company are enough," she grinned, lacing her arms together around his neck.
"I know, but I got you a few things, flowers included."
"You got me flowers too?" she squealed.
Lando nodded, "It seems we're more alike than we believed."
"Would you please just kiss me?" With Jake Seresin!
I would apologise for not posting sooner but we all know how life gets. Without further explanation, here's your blurb ♥️ Thanks @a-reader-and-a-writer for looking this over!
Blurb Night Masterlist
It’s been over half an hour since she left the Hard Deck, wandering out onto the beach and walking along the shore. She hadn’t gone far, close enough that the light coming out of the windows was still visible but far enough that she could no longer hear the people out on the patio.
The sun disappeared some moments ago and the moon is taking its place, casting a cold grey light over the sand.
“What are you doing out here?”
She keeps her eyes on the waves, tracing the overlaps and motions, even as she answers him. “Thinking.”
She’s hoping the short answer will be enough, that he’ll go back inside and leave her alone but fate has other plans. She should have known it wouldn’t be enough. Like a dog with a bone, Hangman wasn’t the one to let things go.
Her hope is further crushed when he comes closer, taking a seat in the sand next to her. He’s close enough so that she can feel the heat emitting from his body, his cologne invading her senses. Not in an unpleasant or unwelcome way, just in a way she hadn’t expected.
“You know, there’s a party going on inside, yet you’re out here alone, thinking.” Hangman says, leaning back onto his elbows and stretching his legs out. She doesn’t look away from the water but his movements can be seen in the corner of her eye.
“Which is exactly why I’m here. Too loud to think in there. Out here though? It’s quiet, simple.” She murmurs, drawing her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. She can feel his eyes on her, watching her. “What do you want?”
Hangman takes a moment to answer, as if he has to decide what to say. “I just wanted to make sure you’re alright.”
“I’m good, thanks.” She’d rather lie than tell him what’s really bothering her. There’s no reason for him to know. He wouldn’t even understand.
Unfortunately, Hangman sees right through her. “Could have fooled me.”
He pulls himself upright, matching her position. It’s odd seeing him look so vulnerable, smaller than he usually presents himself to be.
When she doesn’t reply, he hesitantly continues, as if he’s afraid she’s going to run off if he pushes too far. “You can talk to me, you know. If something’s bothering you. You’d probably prefer Phoenix or Bob but I don’t see them running out here to check on you.”
She rolls her eyes at the last bit. Even when he’s trying to comfort her, he can’t help but take a shot at their teammates. It’s all in good nature nowadays, but it’s so predictably Hangman that it makes her smile. His concern is touching but she still keeps her guard up.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” she pauses slightly before adding, “but thank you.”
Hangman shifts, turning his body sideways so he is closer than before. “I think there is something to talk about, you just don’t want to.”
If getting on her nerves is his mission, he’s succeeding at an alarming rate. Gone is the gratefulness at his earlier offer. “And pray tell, Hangman, what would that be, hm?” She spits out, unsuccessful in keeping the annoyance out of her voice. She knows it isn’t fair to react this way, not when he’s been nothing but kind to her but anything to steer him away from the conversation she doesn’t want to happen.
Hangman holds his hands up, as if to placate her. “Maybe the fact that you’ve been avoiding me ever since Payback’s birthday? The fact that whenever we’re off base, you slink away to sit somewhere by yourself? Or maybe we should talk about how we kissed and you refuse to talk about it?”
Fuck.
The last part of his rant makes her tear her gaze from the water, swirling around in the sand to face him. They end up close, too close, but neither moves. “You remember that?”
It’s a weak response, she knows that but it’s the only thing she can come up with.
The look in his eyes portrays disbelief. “Of course I remember. Why wouldn’t I?”
“Because you were drunk? And you didn’t talk to me for the whole day afterwards, so I figured it was just something.. -”
“I didn’t talk to you because when I woke up, you were gone. I wasn’t going to hunt you down over something you clearly regretted but I still think we should talk about it.”
She knows they need to address the whole situation but as he speaks, she can only focus on one thing. “You think I regret it?”
Now he’s the one refusing to meet her eyes. “What was I supposed to think? Like I said, you’ve been avoiding me ever since, so I figured you were just trying to let me down easy without having to say something, which is a shitty move by the way, even for you -”
“Let you down easy?” She’s full of bewilderment at this point and while she knows what he’s insinuating, she can’t make herself believe it. There is no possibility, she’d been telling herself for months.
“Oh, spare me. You can’t honestly make me believe you don’t know. I think I’ve been very clear about my feelings for you.” Jake declares, a distinct look in his eyes as he straightens up. But the vulnerability on his face betrays his emotions, even if his voice stays strong.
She feels like she’s falling, a wide black abyss consuming her entire being. Never in her wildest dreams had she thought she’d find herself in the situation. “You have feelings for me?”
She’s well aware that she should probably try to unearth more but she’s still not entirely sure she isn’t hallucinating. This can’t possibly be happening.
Jake laughs incredulity. “Are you telling me you actually don’t know?”
“Well, you never said anything!” She implores.
“I didn’t think I had to! It's pretty obvious.” He responds, shrugging his shoulders like he didn’t just drop a major bomb on her.
She throws her arms out, almost whacking him in the face. “OBVIOUS? How about you use your words instead of just thinking I can read your mind? I had no idea!”
“Why would I kiss you, if I didn’t like you?”
She stares at him blankly, at a loss for words. Everything she had wanted since her stupid crush had manifested itself was happening but for some reason, she couldn’t respond in the proper way. How many times had she wished he would reprecipitate the feelings she had developed for him during their time together? How much had she beaten herself up over kissing him back at Payback’s birthday almost a month ago, knowing that he didn’t feel the same, knowing it was the alcohol?
She’s vaguely aware that he’s speaking again but her mind is racing, as is her heart, and she blurts out the only thing she’s thinking about. “Would you please just kiss me? Again?”

"What the bloody hell were you thinking?" Harry's voice boomed through the small flat.
Y/N flinched at his harsh tone, shrinking back a little. She had accidentally knocked over the vase of flowers he had gotten her for their anniversary last week while cleaning.
"I-I'm so sorry, Harry. It was an accident, I swear," she said, her voice wavering.
Harry ran a frustrated hand through his already messy hair. "Those were from our anniversary! Do you have any idea how much those cost? How could you be so careless?"
Tears welled up in Y/N's eyes at his angry words. She knew he had spent a lot on those flowers, but it truly had been a complete accident. The vase had been precariously placed on the edge of the table.
"I didn't mean to, I p-promise," she said, a tear escaping down her cheek. "I'll clean it up right away."
She moved to grab some towels and the dustpan but Harry stopped her with a firm hand on her arm. "No, just…just leave it. I'll take care of it."
Y/N nodded meekly, trying her best to hold back the rest of her tears. Harry's grip on her arm was almost painfully tight. She pulled her arm back gently and stepped away, heading for the small bathroom. Once inside with the door locked, she let the damn burst.
Harsh sobs wracked her body as she leaned against the bathroom counter. She hated when Harry got angry like that, especially over something so trivial. The flowers had been beautiful, but they were just flowers. She hadn't meant to knock them over. His harsh words and icy glare cut deeper than he probably realized.
Out in the living room, Harry was trying to regain his composure as he cleaned up the mess of water, dirt, and broken ceramic. He hadn't meant to fly off the handle like that, but seeing those flowers - a gift he had put so much thought and effort into - carelessly destroyed had set him off.
As the anger began to dissipate, shame started creeping in. The look of fear and hurt on Y/N's face made his chest ache. He shouldn't have yelled at her like that, especially not over some stupid flowers. She was so good to him, so loving and caring. She didn't deserve to be treated that way.
Lost in his thoughts, Harry didn't immediately notice the muffled sobs coming from the bathroom. His head whipped towards the sound and he felt his heart plummet into his stomach.
Y/N was crying. Because of him.
He tossed the towels aside and quickly made his way to the bathroom door, knocking lightly.
"Y/N? Love, open the door, please," he called gently.
There was a sniffle from the other side before her shaky voice responded. "Go away, Harry. I…I need a minute."
"No, sweetheart, please let me in," he pleaded. "I'm so sorry I yelled, I didn't mean to hurt you like that."
The lock clicked and the door cracked open slowly. Y/N peered out, her eyes red and puffy from crying. A fresh wave of guilt washed over Harry.
"Oh, love," he whispered, pulling her into his arms.
She went willingly, burying her face in his chest as the tears started anew. Harry rubbed soothing circles on her back, pressing kisses into her hair.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N," he murmured. "I was way out of line. Those flowers didn't matter, not compared to you. Nothing is more important than you."
Y/N sniffled against his shirt. "B-But you seemed so upset about them. I didn't mean to ruin your gift like that."
"Shh, shh, it's okay," Harry assured her. "I overreacted completely. They were just flowers, an object that can be replaced. You're my whole world, Y/N. I love you more than anything."
He tilted her chin up so he could look into her beautiful eyes. They were still watery with tears, but there was a glimmer of hope in them now.
"You mean that?" she asked quietly. "You're not still mad?"
Harry shook his head adamantly. "Not at all, darling. I'm sorry I made you think that some dumb flowers were more important than you feeling loved and safe. That was incredibly stupid of me."
A small smile tugged at the corners of Y/N's lips and she leaned up to kiss him softly. "I love you, Harry. So much."
He returned her kiss with every ounce of love and adoration he felt for this woman. "I love you too, more than you'll ever know. Now, what do you say we cuddle up on the couch and watch a cheesy movie? My treat."
Y/N giggled, the final tears drying on her cheeks. "I'd like that a lot."
As they settled onto the couch, Harry pulled Y/N close, peppering her face with soft kisses.
"Thank you for being so patient and forgiving with me, my love," he said earnestly. "You deserve the world."
Y/N nuzzled her face into the crook of his neck, leaving a lingering kiss there. "As long as I have you, that's all the world I need."

The moment you heard that Wednesday had her accusatory finger set on Xavier, you ran to his dorm to warn him. You had to get him into safety. You had to take him to a place where she — and the police — wouldn’t find him.
Out of breath from sprinting across the academy, you banged on his door, not caring about getting caught in the boys' dormitories. His neighbors probably hated you at the moment.
When the door opened, you didn't let Xavier place a word. ‘’You gotta get out of here. Wednesday went to Sheriff Galpin’s office and she has all these evidences pointing at you.’’
‘’But I’m not—’’ he began to say.
You shook your head. ‘’It doesn’t matter. We have to leave, Xavier. Now.’’
He slipped on his shoes and grabbed a jacket and followed you into the woods. It didn’t matter to you if he was the hyde or not. You loved him.
You let go of his hand once you arrived at the small cave. It was cramped and cold, but you doubted the Jericho police would search the woods this deep at night. And since you didn’t take your phones, no one could track you.
‘’We’re gonna stay here until the coast is clear at the academy. I know it’s dirty and cold, but the police are probably gonna search your art shed, so we can’t go there yet,’’ you explained, wishing you had taken a warmer jacket with you.
Xavier sat down on the dirt and leaned against the stone. He thought Wednesday was his friend. How could she betray him like that?
You leaned against his shoulder, huddling close for warmth. ‘’I'm always on your side. Even if you’re the beast.’’
‘’I'm not,’’ Xavier said. ‘’I see it in my dreams, but it’s not me. I would tell you if I could turn into a hunchbacked monster with sharp teeth and claws.’’

Dinner with the Roys was always a spectacle. You and Roman have been married a while now, but he never dreads these gatherings any less, even with you by his side.
After everyone’s eaten, you and Kendall mill about, glasses of lemonade in hand. One of his kids had made a pitcher, and you were more than happy to taste.
“It’s better than the one they serve at Waystar,” you tell Iverson conspiratorially, his father laughing. “No, seriously! You have talent. Keep experimenting.” You give Iverson a small ruffle of the hair before he runs off, Kendall following with a soft smile on his face.
Someone’s hand goes to cup the small of your back, and you know it’s Roman before even looking up. Both from the way his cologne smells and just the shape of his palm. He presses a kiss to your brow, pulling you so that you’re standing close enough to him that your bodies are touching.
“Hi,” he murmurs into your skin. He litters more open mouthed kisses onto your brow, staring off into space.
“Hi,” you repeat back. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” he replies, half dazed. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure, Ro?” you ask, pulling back to get a good look at his face. The bags under his eyes are more pronounced, his features heavily lined with exhaustion. You drop your voice so that only he can hear what you say. “You wanna go home?”
He’s hesitant, but he gives a minute nod of his head, and that’s all you need. You quickly say your goodbyes, slipping Kendall’s kids chocolates from your purse and giving Shiv and Ken short hugs. Your fingers tangle with Roman’s as you step out into the chill of the night, a cab already waiting for the two of you.
He doesn’t say anything the entirety of the trip back, instead just keeping his cheek pressed to your shoulder. You let your head lean on his, staring out into the night from the windshield. His fingers trace lazy patterns on your thigh, the contact barely registering. You’re not quite sure where his head’s at- something’s weighing on his mind, and he can’t seem to make sense of it.
You want to help lift this burden off of him, whatever it was, but you weren’t going to press him into sharing anything. He’d come talk to you when he was ready.
Roman doesn’t say anything the rest of the night except for ‘I love you’. Something’s obviously upset him, and you want to do whatever it is you can to bring him out of this spiral.
You’re sat bed now, in your pajamas, scrolling through some work emails on your phone when he settles in next to you. He shifts so that his body is in between your legs, his head settling on your stomach, hand guiding yours to his head. Wordlessly, you play mindlessly with locks of his hair, the way you know he likes, and he finally relaxes.
His eyes flutter shut as your nails rake gently over his scalp, and he heaves a long, heavy sigh. You lean down, letting your lips ghost over his forehead.
He gives a quiet grunt of contentedness, his brow furrowing. “Go to sleep, Ro. You need some rest.”
He doesn’t say anything in response, instead kissing the spot right above your belly button before burying his head back into your stomach.
“I love you,” he rasps.
“I love you too.” You don’t stop stroking his hair, scratching gently at his scalp.
The next morning, he’s still clinging to you. The bare beginnings of his stubble are scratching at your neck, his head now pressed into the divot your neck makes when it meets your jaw. When you come to, you realize your limbs are sprawled out on the bed, and you attempt to stretch out. Your joints pop a bit, and Roman shifts, trying to press even closer to you.
“Why aren’t you holding me?” he whines quietly.
You let out an airy laugh, your heart warming. Your arms loop around him, anchoring him to you. One of your hands goes to his head, to his delight. Your other hand runs soothingly up and down his back, and he lets out a breath of air.
You litter kisses into his hair, eliciting soft, happy, noises from him.
“You’re a fuckin’ angel,” he breathes. “My angel.”
