Ok, I got a good one!

What if after an injury or during an illness, whumpee has multiple prescriptions from a doctor. They are too unwell to get out of bed, so caretaker picks up the medication for them, but whumpee has a bad reaction caused by:

A drug interaction that that might amplify sedation so the whumpee can’t stay awake or coordinate movements. Another combo might drop blood pressure suddenly, causing fainting or confusion. Some interactions might build slowly, creating paranoia or hallucinations.

An allergic reaction that causes itching, flushed skin, throat tightness, dizziness, or a creeping sense that breathing feels wrong. This starts small but builds over time.

Pain medication that triggers vivid dreams or confusion or medications that cause dissociation, emotional flattening, panic, or intrusive thoughts.

A mixup with the medications that causes strange mood shifts, blurry vision, or tremors.

Maybe the dosage it too high and the whumpee becomes disoriented or shaky, dehydrated, weak, or nauseated.

Whatever the reason, whumpee gets sicker, caretaker keeps giving the medicine hoping they’ll get better, but they’re only getting worse until whumpee needs to be rushed to the hospital. Caretaker brings the medications to the ER and the doctor says no wonder they’re so sick, the medication is wrong. Caretaker is devastated, they thought they were helping, but were actually making them worse. Caretaker is pacing in the waiting room afraid to go in and see whumpee, but a nurse comes out and says whumpee has been asking for them.

I love this blog so much. my favorite trope is sickfic, and you have so many sub-categories of that on here (fainting, fever, general illness, even one for appendicitis!!!! incredible. and even more I'm definitely forgetting). all this to say is thank you so much for sharing all of these amazing prompts and ideas, they scratch a specific itch in my brain. happy new year to you :)

Thank you!! I tag so specifically for that very reason- sometimes you just get a really particular itch for one specific aspect or trope and I want it to be easy to find everything on this blog that fits the bill for [insert _symptom or scenario_ here] in order to scratch that itch.

Mariano squinted, heart racing. He couldn't see. He didn't know where he was. "A...Sir Archer...?" He tried, voice hoarse.

They'd gotten separated in the attack on their caravan. Mages had poured out of the woods, magic flickering at their hands and smoke filling the area. Mariano had tried to cover his nose and mouth, thrashing and hitting and biting at the bare hands that tried to restrain him.

Even so, his chest felt impossibly heavy. It was too hard to breathe. Now, he wasn't even near the road. How far had he run?

He'd lost his glasses in the attack.

More hands grabbed him, unyielding and harsh. He wheeled around, magic sparking at his teeth and murder in his eyes. The sunlight in his mouth lit up short brown hair and wide hazel eyes, fuzzy and out of focus.

Sir Archer took a step back from the oppressive heat just as Mariano swallowed his magic back down. "Your highness--" He started, voice just as strained.

"Sir Archer, it--its you." Mariano's hands flew to Sir Archer's, taking his bloodied gauntlet between his own gloved hands. "It's you, are you hurt?"

"Nothing that needs immediate attention, your highness." Sir Archer said, not assuaging Mariano's worries in the slightest. "I'll let you look me over once we're safe."

Mariano gave him a flicker of a smile. His knight knew him too well. "Alright, yes, let's--let's find a place to regroup. I'm afraid the others are...gone." He'd watched their bodies crackle with awful magic, dropping like stones in front of him.

"Hold onto me, your highness. I don't want to lose you." Archer said, one hand resting on top of Mariano's as their arms linked.

"Yes, Sir Archer." Mariano said. Even bloodied and disoriented, he could always trust Sir Archer.

He stumbled, just about dropping as he wheezed. Breathing was getting harder. It felt like the cloying smoke kept clinging to his lungs.

"Lean on me, your highness. Let me carry you." Sir Archer said. When he scooped Mariano into his arms, it was with more difficulty than usual.

Mariano didn't think twice about it, head falling to Sir Archer's shoulder. He was probably feeling this same heaviness. He was just impossibly strong, as always.

Sir Archer was safe to be weak around. He would never let anything happen. He'd never lead his prince into danger.

Just as Sir Archer's voice sounded through the trees, pitched with panic, Mariano dropped into still, quiet unconsciousness.
