Lego Men
Today I found my old Lego bins,
I dumped them all out and sorted through the bags.
A child ran up and put their hands on my arm,
"Please Mr! Don't throw those away! They're my favorite!"
I smiled fondly at the child, for I knew his voice well,
"No little one, I'm not throwing them away. I'm simply packing them up."
His head full of curls tilted as he stood up on tip toes to see over the box,
"How come? I play with them every single day!"
I paused, placing the last bag in the box,
"Well... Times change I suppose. I don't have the time or the want to pull them out nowadays as much as I used to."
He reached over and plucked a mini figure from the pile,
"Hey that's Mr. Police man, you can't pack him up!"
Tossling his hair, I set the bin down on the floor.
"How about we pick out some Lego men, and play one more time before we pack them away, okay?"
He pondered this response, brown eyes squinted in thought.
"Hmmm. Okay! But you gotta play the bad guys, and I gotta catch you."
"Deal."
Now my room lays quiet, the little boy long gone.
The room still rings with our laughter,
The floor is still littered with Lego men.

As readers, we don’t know what is ‘real’ within the world, and what is a figment of the fictional narrator’s imagination. In these titles,…
