Ban Me For Life - 03
Harringrove Series
Don't go to the pool with Steve.
"I can't believe you got my sister banned," Mike said as they strolled out of the pool locker room. The week-long ban was over and Steve was itching to antagonize Billy again. So, naturally, he had brought some backup.
"Yeah, sorry about that."
Mike laughed. "Whatever. I thought it was hilarious. Probably did her some good."
"Don't be like that, Mike. Nancy's cool," Dustin said. Mike just groaned in response.
Steve wasn't listening. His attention was focused on the tanned lifeguard strutting around the pool. He hadn't spotted Steve yet and looked to be in a better mood than the last time they'd met.
The kids broke off to hit the other end of the pool. Steve sat at one of the tables and began blowing up an inflatable lounger. As he set it in the pool, he caught Billy's eye. The lifeguard was watching him closely, the look on his face somewhere between lust and annoyance. Steve could work with that.
He laid down on the floating mattress and kicked off into the middle of the pool. Holding his gaze with Billy, Steve pulled a ziploc bag from the pocket of his trunks and pulled out a sandwich. Catching sight of what was in Steve's hand, Billy straightened. He pulled off his sunglasses and shot Steve a warning look.
But Steve, ever the rebel, took a bite from his sandwich. Crumbs fell on his chest and he let out a dramatic 'whoops.' Billy charged over to him, his toes dangling over the ledge.
"There's no goddamn food in the pool, Harrington," Billy hissed.
Steve shoved the rest of the sandwich in his mouth and shot Billy his innocent doe-eyed look. After swallowing the last of his meal, he spoke.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't see any signs posted. Won't happen again. Promise."
Billy glared at the sunbathing brunette for a long time, presumably waiting for him to get out of the pool. But Steve knew better than that. He remembered what it felt like when Billy had thrown him into the pool. Billy's hand around his throat...
"Harrington!" Dustin said, swimming up to him. "We require sustenance."
"There's food in my car. Just don't eat in the pool, okay? The lifeguard will kill me if you do."
"Yeah, yeah," Dustin murmured and swam away.
While the kids were off eating, Steve approached Billy at his stand. The lifeguard looked down at him and sighed, asking what he wanted now.
"Okay, look. I know we kind of started out on the wrong foot, and I'm sorry for that. But... You give lessons, right?" Billy nodded tersely. "One of the kids doesn't really know how to swim, but he's too embarrassed to ask for lessons. Would you...?"
Billy sighed and stuck a piece of gum in his mouth, his eyes tracing the lines of Steve's face. "Fine. But you need to get your fucking shit together, man. You're making my job real hard."
"Yeah. Yeah, of course. Thank you so much. He's the gangly one with black hair. His name's Mike."
When the kids came back, Billy pulled Mike to the side to talk about swimming lessons. Steve could see from the other side of the pool that Mike had gone pink in the face. He snapped a response at Billy, who clearly was not in the mood for his attitude. Mike started yelling then, and Billy pointed toward the door.
Mike stomped away out of the pool, shooting Steve a wicked look. Billy came over once Mike was gone, his expression stoney. He stood mere inches away from Steve and sneered.
"That little shit didn't need lessons, did he?"
Steve shrugged and tried to look innocent. "I thought he did! He swims like an idiot..."
Billy smiled wickedly. "I'll get you back for all this shit. I promise you."
God, Steve couldn't fucking wait. He wanted to lick that smirk off his gorgeous face. He would. Some day.
