i am in equal parts baffled and horrified that treasure planet (takes place in space) won over black sails (problematic poster child for the boat genre)

i will be honest i was not expecting this either. when i was seeding, i thought black sails would have gone a lot farther. i was definitely not expecting it to get trounced by treasure planet of all things

i do think it's ironic though that the only matchup i was really worried about was black sails vs ofmd and they both got taken out so early so that's kind of a success on my part

to be fair, the ship in treasure planet is sooo cool so i understand the appeal in a tournament whose focus is boats and ships

I don't know if anyone has brought it up, but perhaps a fun tournament in the distant future could be songs about ships and boats?

ooh that would be interesting! i wonder how many there would be? i know there's only been a few in past tournaments, but i bet the collective consciousness of tumblr could supply me with more.

Only found out about you today (and this isnt a submission), but i can only guess that no one submitted Eight Bells by the Jolly Rogers since its not on the list. I consider it a spiritual sister song to Mary Ellen Carter; where as one is about saving a ship from an end she didnt deserve, the other is about helping her with dignity.

I dont see enough love for this song and I just wanted to share it with someone who could fully appreciate it.

Firefly propaganda so you're not the only one making it: it's a very short first season and a movie that fortunately got made after the show got canceled after just the one season. It basically invented the space western genre and if anyone is a fan of morally ambiguous protagonists, incredible found family, really well-developed and unique characters and just fun space adventures then this is where it's at. There are rumors of a reboot so fingers crossed that'll go through! (And not mess up the story.)
