super surprised there was a m3 ltw on track this past weekend at scca
Motorsports day in the mountains. . What a joy watching these two factory #BMWM3ltw cars dancing through the curves. . I drove our “new to us” 2007 #porsche997C4S. What an incredibly competent machine. 90+ degree weather. Sea level to 8k foot climbs. A/C blasting at 65 degrees. Sublimely smooth shifting 6-speed. Perfectly balanced. I'm a big believer in the "butt dyno." For those who know me, it's no secret how much I love these BMW M3 Lightweights (LTW/CSL). For so long they were over-looked by everyone. I still think they're misunderstood by most. Many simply thought it was a marketing gimmick by BMW to sell a few more stripped out M3s. They couldn't be more misinformed. These were one of the few European cars that were actually homologated for a U.S. racing series. In fact, I can't think of another. However, since 1974, the U.S. market has always gotten the short end of the stick when it came to the truly great European engines. One of the best power plants to come out of Europe in the 1990's was the BMW Group N/S50B32. To many, this is as confusing as reading ingredients on vegan/paleo energy bar. However, to those who know, this is the holy grail of straight 6 cylinder engines. The glorious sound from the individual throttle bodies is the soundtrack of angels.
