Our post on the @grainsurfboards @Glenmorangiecom partnership continues🦒 This was not just about hanging ten and high fives, we were also hanging out🤙 The evening started with a delicious Glenmorangie sour cocktail and the chance to drink in the craftsmanship and passion of the collaboration 🥃 . We were soon ushered upstairs and introduced to Grain’s ‘board builder’ John Hamblett, the man responsible for creating these beautifully sculptural surfboards🤩 His passion and love for his craft was evident as he explained how each board took over 40 hours to build, shape and complete. . Each board has an individual and unique patina from the oak casks; they are all numbered and crafted in the old style of years gone by with a hollow core and structural frame. The structural braces in the frame were created using the oak from the spent casks, the staves being dried and precisely cut to form the backbone and give strength to each board. Whilst locally sourced maple from Maine, USA was used in the top and bottom decks, the centre inlay was created entirely from Glenmorangie oak casks. In total almost 20 oak staves were used for each board, each stave thinly sliced to a laminate that uncovered a beautiful butterfly patina effect evident on each board.
