Been playing on this site for several months now - my friends and I have a weekly gaming session using it, though we also do a separate voicechat at the same time as playing - and it’s pretty good. I actually treated myself to a year of premium recently because it’s been worthwhile to play things online, and in person gaming certainly isn’t gonna be feasible for me for a while yet.
There’s a good selection of board games (~250 at the moment), including some pretty popular ones like Carcassonne, and always more being added too. They actually get the rights from the creators so it’s all above board which is nice to see. If you have the free membership sometimes you have to wait for a game to start, but usually not more than ~10 mins for popular games. Discovered some good new games via the site, which is cool, because it’s way cheaper to play stuff online than having to buy a copy of something not knowing if you’ll like it, and it saves on spoons for not doing setup of games too. My current new fave is Potion Explosion.
If you want the premium membership but can’t afford it, it’s possible to get points towards it by, a) winning a new game you’d not played before (you get +5 points for that), or b) contributing to the site with translation, web dev of a game, or referring people.
