Meet Hick ups
Formerly known as Daffodil Queen, Hick Ups is a 40 foot Tollycraft Tricabin Yacht. She was built in Kelso, Washington by the Tollycraft Yacht Corporation in 1974. I’m not so sure what her original engines were, but now there’s two 3208 Caterpillar engines who run this big girl. She has 4 diesel tanks that hold a total of 450 gallons.
So how can a Queen turn into a Hick Up? Well, it slowly happens as a boat this age gets more and more demanding with maintenance bills. Eventually, if someone doesn’t have the time and desire to keep up with everything, it can become pretty overwhelming, and that’s where we come in.
We were looking for a boat that we could live aboard while we fished, explored and searched for wildlife. Since Queen Daffodil’s railing was peeling and molded, windows were leaky, her decking and fiberglass had spiderweb cracks in many places, both toilets were broken, the water pump’s pressure switch is broken, and the refrigerator was going out she took on the name of “Hick Ups.” Later we found out she didn’t even have the rear zinc attached to prevent internal corrosion and the engines needed a little TLC.
It is to our advantage that she had so many hiccups, because we are now able to make her our home for a price we can manage. Yes, it will take us some time to fix her up and update her style, but she can allow us to learn to sail safely and navigate the Northwest Pacific without much worry.
