So I’m watching this, right, and you hear that music? It sounds so fucking familiar. Like I’ve heard that before. So I go “huh, that’s fucking bobbybroccoli music MOTHERFUCKER THAT’S IN ONE OF HIS VIDEOS”

Now, most of you guys on here probably aren’t science nerds and know BobbyBroccoli but I AM, so his video essays are my COMFORT videos. Queue research montage of: I know that music like the back of my hand and there’s two videos it could definitely be in but which one and when? I try the Bogdnaov brothers video, first and second, not in there. Then I’m like “ok, so it HAS to be in the Ninov one so when?” And then… oh and then it hits me. The timeline of trying to find who faked element 118 and them finding NINOV IT WAS THERE DAMN IT.

BobbyBroccoli looked at Jon Bois’s video essay style and went “oh the STEM geeks would fuck with this so hard,” and he was totally right.

Minor downside: the majority of STEM geeks have never voluntarily sat through an entire football game in their lives, let alone looked into sports statistics or sports journalism, and as a result are completely unaware of who Jon Bois is, and thus genuinely believe that no one else has ever done anything like this before.

This is why it is important to force all of your scientist friends to read Football 17776 (/j).

I'm continuing to fill in some of my cultural blind spots with more sports history since it's neither something I grew up around nor a natural personal interest of mine.

I've been trying to gain more of a journeyman level of appreciation for sports and sports culture without being bogged down by a lack of basic knowledge like the rules of a game in theory everyone knows already, or a lack of investment that makes things that are too technical a slog to get excited about or understand why they're cool or important.

If you're in the same boat I highly recommend this YouTuber who I can describe as 'the BobbyBroccoli for sports history instead of Science History' and is highly underappreciated.
