Bodhi Lives - Jedha Diaspora, and/or I Do Crime Now?
(Sorry for the delay in getting to this, creative brain sort of shut off midway through the week. Not fun!)
So the Jedha Diaspora fic takes place in my Bodhi Lives universe - in that universe Bodhi and K-2SO live past Scarif, and wind up basically being vigilantes on the run from the Empire.
I haven’t taken a lot of time in that series to show that Bodhi’s relationship to the destroyed Jedha, and the Jedha Diaspora doc is brainstorming around that.
I think I saw it as an outsider POV fic for most of it, told from the POV of various Jedhans who survived the destruction of Jedha. Bodhi sort of becomes a cryptid in that community, the nice young man with a droid that shows up and does something nice, that buys traditional candies and starts crying when he thinks nobody is watching, that guides a lost child back home in rusty but still serviceable Jedhan (I’m less certain about Jedhan as a language - the city is such a crossroads, but there’s some sort of common language that isn’t Basic). There eventually becomes a gossip network around sighting him, and a sort of determination to see how much they can fold the lost lamb back into their community. Jedha has lost enough sons to the Empire in one way or another, it’d be nice to get one back.
I didn’t write it because at the time, I don’t think I had the chops to do it right. I’m still not sure I do. Bodhi’s feelings in this universe are so complicated - he’s absolutely feeling the guilt of being responsible for Jedha. He’s also feeling a lot of isolation from any community outside his duo of him and K-2. I think from Bodhi’s POV, he stopped being Jedhan when he signed up with the Empire, and it’d be a complicated thing, finding that part of himself again. I still think it’s a very important piece of his character, and I still turn the story over in my head, trying to figure out what I’d need in order to do it justice.
I go into the basics of my ‘Poe was Undercover of Kijimi’ fic here - BUT, since there’s a lot on the doc, I’m going to use this as an excuse to share another snippit :D
Please enjoy Poe and Luke working together, in which Poe gets to be the sensible one for a change:
Luke's map of Kijimi’s smuggling tunnels was woefully out of date. "You paid actual credits for this?" Poe laughed. "I've got a hyperspace lane I want to sell you."
Luke rolled his eyes and they got to work. Poe crossed out tunnels that were caved in and added in the newly carved ones. He knew the south of the city better than the north, but he felt it was reasonably accurate. Then they went through it again, and tried to figure out which of the still-existing routes would have been in use about twenty years ago.
"What are you going to do with this?" Poe finally thought to ask, about two hours into their work.
"I figured I'd go down there and see if I got a sense of anything," Luke responded.
So then Poe had to go over the map again, pointing out all the areas that Luke seriously could not go, because there were fucking criminal gangs everywhere, and while yes he probably could stab them all, it would be very suspicious, now wouldn't it?
Luke finally agreed to stay out of the currently used tunnels, and Poe breathed a sigh of relief.
Poe, dealing with Jedi bumbling through things, threatening to blow the whole operation. Poor guy.
