White Lilies by Peder, Anne Trolle 🎧
Some close-ups of Qilayne's illustration because this one turned out quite complex!
A massive thank you is in order to my geologist friend (and DM) Tara, who sent me pages of explanations and notes on what sort of tools and equipment Qilayne would use for her fossil hunting. I've tried to give her everything she would need (magnifying lens, brushes, chisels, a map case, a hammer, some acid…) so this is the most detailed design I've done in a long time! Her bodice is printed with patterns of fossils (fish, ammonites, and ferns) and her outfit, whilst very fantasy based, was inspired in spirit by Victorian lady explorers in their full skirts and corsets. As Qilayne is a drow adventuring above ground for the first time she wears a large hat (with the symbol of Lolth sneakily woven into its pattern) to protect herself from the sun, and her druid staff is made from Zurkhwood, as the Underdark has giant mushrooms and funghi rather than trees. The amber at the top is a silly homage to one of my all-time favourite movies, and the feathers encased inside are what helps her summon her companion spirit.
This is the best bodice/corset I’ve ever bought
Bodices and tunics (kurpasaka, kanchuka, chola) in Ajanta art.
The fitted blouses of pics 3 and 4 are similar to the choli.
Pics 5 and 6 appear to be of foreign women, pic 6′s diagonal type bands along the neckline appear in many Ajanta paintings and are often indicative of a foreign subject.
Pics 1 and 2 are of tunics which seem to be painted textiles which are bandhani/block print. The blue colour in these paintings (from lapis lazuli) indicates a later stage of the Ajanta paintings.
The most elaborate costime in Ajanta is of the dancer of pic 1 (from the depiction of the Mahajanaka Jataka) which probably has an inner bodice and an outer long tunic that seems like a kurta slit really high above the waist and ends in a kind of hanky hem.
In cases where using #steel #boning isn't favorable, I use tripled-up plastic #rigilene. After cutting three of the same lengths, I round the tips, and melt them with a flame to be smooth. I then stack the "bones" on top of each other and secure with strong #gaff tape. #sewing #corsetry #boning #bodices. 💰💸💲💰💸💲💰💸💲 TIP: buy rigilene online, 50 yards for $16 on #Amazon. If you buy it in the store it can be as much as $3/yd. It's like spending the same amount for 6 yards and getting 50 yards.
