talking about my upcoming foot surgery under the cut bc I don't mind discussing *some* of my medical information lmao, and talking through it is how I prepare and process it. there is a picture of my weird foot too jsyk. if your foot looks like mine and hurts a lot maybe talk to your dr
this is my foot. decided to take my own "before" picture to compare with once it's healed. the part I'm getting fixed is the bunion, the big knobby bump on the big toe side. hopefully fixing it will help uncurl the other toes and help them overlap less. this bunion visually is pretty minor but does cause me a lot of pain when walking or being on my feet a lot, so hopefully this will be an improvement. the doctor believes I was born with a deformity that after nearly 3 decades has finally started causing pain. my mom also has it so it's probably genetic.
the procedure I'm getting on friday is called an Austin procedure. They're going to make 3 little holes in my skin, and internally saw my first metatarsal in half, reposition it, and sink 2 screws into it to anchor it in place. this procedure actually corrects the deformity instead of some common cosmetic procedures that shave the edge of the bone off instead.
I should be weight bearing immediately, but on low activity for a week and in a walking boot foot 6 weeks. I heal very quickly from things typically so we shall see what my actual healing timeline is.
I'm posting all this to hopefully exorcise the scripting demon that's been in my mind making me recite this post over and over again and I'm sick of hearing myself go over the procedure repeatedly. maybe posting it will give me some closure idk?
