This image captures the Space Shuttle Enterprise mounted on top of a modified Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) during the Approach and Landing Tests (ALT). 

Vehicle Pair: The Space Shuttle Enterprise (prototype orbiter) is shown riding atop NASA 905, one of two specially modified 747s used to ferry shuttles. 

Purpose: These captive flights in the late 1970s tested the aerodynamics of the mated vehicles and verified the 747's ability to carry the orbiter's weight. 

Specific Event: This photograph matches the approach of the Enterprise to the Redstone Arsenal airstrip in Huntsville, Alabama, on March 13, 1978. 

Historic Importance: The Enterprise was not designed for spaceflight but was crucial for proving the concept of orbital flight systems and aerodynamic handling.
