When Bogart was first signed by Warner Bros. in 1935, they changed his birth date to January 23rd, 1900 due to their belief that he wouldn't be able to play an effective "heavy" or villain on screen if the public knew he was a Christmas baby. But his wife, screen star Lauren Bacall, later stated that they always celebrated his birthday on Christmas Day, with Bogart annually joking that the dual celebration probably led "to getting cheated out of a present or two".
