My sweet little Bogong moth arrived yesterday! 😍 He was made by the incredible @sarqq (please have a look at their wonderful dolls and art!!) So why a Bogong moth? Because they're an Australian native and they are in danger. These moths are migratory, and can fly thousands of kilometres from their birthplace. They were once also a food source for many of our Indigenous peoples. They're also a very important source of food for the critically endangered Mountain Pygmy Possum (they're super small and utterly adorable, hence their nickname "Fairies of the Bush"), but modern society with all its bright lights at night has made a big impact on the way these moths migrate, which in turn has been devastating for the little possums who rely on these moths for protein when they wake up after their long winter hibernation. 😥 Light pollution is just as bad for our wildlife as physical pollution. #artdoll #bogongmoth #australianfauna #australia #mountainpygmypossum #moth https://www.instagram.com/p/B8LBoAdJzQz/?igshid=1c3h5pude5t36

One little hand embroidered doily. Inspired by the Bogong moth and my love of vintage embroidery. Two more samples to make, two classes this term not long to go now. #bogongmoth #handembroidery #mydesign #stitchersofinstagram #doily #anutextilesworkshop #textiles #artanddesignschool #handstitching @anutextilesworkshop (at Queanbeyan, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo_fjdrh3B6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5j0opaykne6w
My latest public art commission by @natmusaus in Canberra, this work is quite large and suspended from the NMA ceiling. I worked with @uapcompany to fabricate and install the Bogong Moth, made from polished cast bronze, aluminium, automotive paint and led lighwork. The artwork references the migratory Bogong Moth, an Indigenous totem, as a metaphor for the mass movements of cultures and people.
