Reminder to everyone who hasn't seen it (and a reminder for people to watch it again) - The Green Green Dress deleted scene.

Lin Manuel Miranda was really smart in adapting Tick Tick Boom only including songs that progressed the plot/fit with the theme of the show. Green Green Dress, unfortunately, is one of those songs that would only hurt the pacing if it was included. Thank god it was filmed though!

I think the reason it was filmed in the first place is probably because it shows Jonathan and Susan... actually having fun. Their relationship is the core of Tick Tick Boom emotionally and thematically (the sacrifices you have to make for art), but we don't get to see them happy for very long.

Green Green Dress was probably initially included to set up the relationship before they tore it apart. Though they managed to do that much easier than they thought they could...

Another thing I love about this scene is how musical/theatre-ish it is. Tick tick boom is really careful with diagesis and keeping the musical elements believable, except for two songs. No more and Green Green Dress which go all out with the choreography.

Those are the only two songs where he sings a duet with his friends! The people he has the most fun with. The extra choreography reflects that.
