SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: HUSTLE BUSTLE (JAZZ-HOP SELECTION)
Here we are with anotha brand new jazz-hop selection.
Hustle Bustle is a 10 supa-dope hip-hop underground joints blended with jazzy sounds.
PAULY YAMS & DJ JAZZ – WHEN I BLOW UP (ODD GOONS REMIX)
We start with a jump in the past! In the 1995 emcee Pauly Yams and producer DJ Jazz dropped their hip-hop project titled When I Blow Up. Swedish hip-hop beatmaker Odd Goons blew the dust off the single When I Blow Up , delivering an impressive remix that surely will turn you on with a thoughtful use of jazzy beats!
GODFATHER DON – DO I COME OFF
Well, probably Godfather Don didn’t gain recognitions like Pete Rock, The Beatminerz and similar underground influential artists but if an hip-hop mogul like DJ Premier included Godfther music on his compilation “Haze Presents: New York Reality Check 101″ , maybe there was a good reason to spotlight his music. Rodney Chapman aka Godfather Don is a trained hip-hop producer (working with Cormega among others) and emcee. In 1997 he dropped The Nineties Sessions, a tapestry of tracks recorded between 1993 – 1997. We chose Do I Come Off a jazz-hop tune , where God shows his gritty production style and chops.
DJ HONDA FEAT. GURU AND DJ PREMIER – WHAT YOU EXPECTED
This the third selection , where we showcase the talent of one of the most talented hip-hop mastermind of turntable: DJ Honda. The Japanese DJ/producer appeared on Book Of Rhymes and Me And My Adidas and this time we selected another masterpiece from his eponymous album with a line up that includes Sadat X,Tha Alkaholiks,The Beatnuts,Common,Biz Markie,Grand Puba. We serve you up the ultra-sophisticated beat of What You Expected with the righteous scratches of DJ Premier and the well executed rhymes by Guru.
CROWN CITY ROCKERS – WEEKEND SOUL (DJ MITSU THE BEATS REMIX)
DJ Mitsu The Beats represents another skilful hip-hop DJ/producer from the east . He earned many mentions here, appearing on Sugar Sista , Stay Mellow 3 , The Block Is Hot , Neo-Soul Conversation , Jazz-Hop Chronicles , Neo-Soul Fever ,The Remix Session , A Touch Of Jazzy . The brilliant and solid Mitsu style brings us into anotha level and in order to satisfy the jazz-hop tasters palates, we want to spin the treatment remix of a so fucking serious tune performed by Rashaan Ahmad and his group Crown City Rockers, titled Weekend Soul. The track is included on Crown City Rockers . They appeared on da jazz-hop selection Walking With The Giants .
CLEAR SOUL FORCES – 15 MINUTES
E-Fav,L.A.Z ,Noveliss and super talented producer Ilajide are Clear Soul Forces. We felt in love with them, when we stumbled upon the single Get No Better (check out the visual ). They represent a right and proper choice for everyone who are looking for real dope underground hip-hop music! Clear Soul Forces appeared on This Is It Y’All , Jazz-Hop Hooray and Road To Hip-Hop . Check out the breakneck pace track titled 15 Minutes masterfully produced by Ilajide included on Detroit Revolution(s) . Make you sure to listen to Gold PP7S
BRIAN GREEN – DA DRAMA (PRODUCED BY SLIMKID3 OF THE PHARCYDE)
Probably the following jazz-hop joint will cause a controversial debate but we think it needs a careful listening!! In 1996 Brian Green released his first studio album titled One Stop Carnival. A large part of music reviewers considered the project as flimsy, immature and far from a quality product! Frankly we think One Stop Carnival doesn’t sound bad . Brian Green was able to put together some compelling and catchy tunes hanging in the balance between jazz-hop and underground hip-hop , assisted by an hip-hop guru like Slimkid3 of The Pharcyde on production. Taste the jazzy beat of Da Drama and let us know you impression!!!
BOHO FAU AND ELEVATED SOUL – COFFEE HOUSE SWINGIN’
The homie James Faulkner aka Boho Fau is a brilliant cat that many times appeared here on da block. As solo artist he appeared on Till The Record Done Spinning and as member of underground hip-hop group The Globetroddas , we spun something on Road To Hip-Hop and This Is It Y’All . Pay attention to his classy jazzy project titled Coffee House Swinger with the collabo of ORA-KL , Fushuz and Godchild known as Elevated Soul. Currently , Mr. Faulkner is cooking something new with Familiar Unseen (with Derrick Buck), so stay tuned and don’t miss the project Grown & Fresh . Now relax your mind with the soulful tones of the jazzy rap track titled Coffee House Swingin
BISHOP NEHRU – SSS (SPLIT SOCIETY SYNDROME)
On September 23d, New York young and skilful underground hip-hop emcee , Bishop Nehru , will release his project titled NEHRUVIANDOOM alongside hip-hop luminary MF Doom. In the meantime we spin a dope jazz-hop shit by Bishop titled SSS (Split Society Syndrome) from his acclaimed masterpiece titled Nehruvia dropped in 2012
ALEXIS DAVIS – 3
Put together bona-fide U.K hip-hop producer Mecca:83 , DJ Simon S, DJ/producer DJ Spinnerty and emcee Replife and the result is something really really flavourful. We are talking about the mellow hip-hop project by Alexis Davis that mesmerized us with the album titled 3 . For this selection we chose the unblemished tune titled 3. Mecca:83 is currently working on his brand new project titled Bahia Affair under the moniker of ReDefinition (alongside Buscrates and DistantStarr )
AFU-RA – WHIRLWIND THRU CITIES (MIX AND SCRATCHES BY DJ PREMIER)
Aaron Phillip aka Afu-Ra is a New York based underground emcee that appears for the first time here on scratchtheblock.com. In 1998 he release his 12” titled Whirlwind Thru Cities from which we chose the self-titled track . DJ Premier mixed and lets loose some scratches! Really compelling jazz-hop smash!!!
Hustle Bustle is available via Mixcloud and Soundcloud

The next masterpiece, is a classic from Mos Def 1999 debut album Black On Both Sides. West Coast rapper Ice Cube dropped in 1993 his fourth studio album, Lethal Injection. We selected da gangsta-dope-shit titled You Know How We Do It produced by Quincy Jones’s son , QD III that worked with Too $hort, LL Cool J,En Vogue among others.
Scratchtheblock spins only dope hip hop music, so sit down, fast your belts and pump up the volume because we are ready to bang your head with a must have hip hop old school tune titled Code Of The Street with two legends from the underground scene and generally the entire hip hop world: Primo and Guru. The track is included on Gang Starr fourth album called Hard To Earn and for this occasion DJ Premier resumed the sample of a Monk Higgins’s record : Little green Apples.

This time we selected anotha sumptuos tune from The Return of the Magnificent. Ladies & gentlemen this is da sound of All I Know featuring New York rapper C.L Smooth.
Oktane and Price Tag, members of California hip hop group known as Audio Push, abandoned their proverbial “jerk style”, to exploring underground hip hop vibes with the collaborative track with Pro Era’s leader Joey Bada$$, titled Tis The Season. The track is included on Audio Push last effort called Come As You Are and it’s produced by renowned producer Hit-Boy.
