I’m working on maps!

The idea I’m working with is that pre-Belos, the Isles was mostly a number of city-states, sort of like medieval/Renaissance Italy. Since this was a few centuries prior to the show, I figure some place names can change. “Palmara” eventually becoming Palm Stings (or being nearby) isn’t a stretch, particularly since my name inspiration is a famous ruin.

Also, I’m making some decisions to reconcile inconsistencies in the show, as well as making the Isle look a little more like the Titan skeleton we see in “Watching and Dreaming.” I also opted to make the skull look like a bit more of a hybrid human and canine.

I’ve been torturing my wife with body pun place names. My favourite is Lumbardy. Tarsalasee also amuses me. Given the era I’m working with, that place probably won’t exactly be Fantasy Florida, but I liked the name too much to pass up.

Edit: Finished blocking the main body shapes in. Much of the wings, tail, and right foot will be underwater, but I want the option of showing shadows/outlines (danger zones for boats coming in)

The Boiling Isles Map

I think this is the most detailed overview we've gotten of the Titan so far.

So I decided to try and make a quick map of a few points of interest.

We've got Bonesborough on the right Forearm,

Latissa roughly in the Armpit,

and The Emperor's Castle around where the Titan's Heart should be.

The Knee is a location itself,

and we know that St. Epiderm is close to the Knee.

There are a few more locations we could try to pinpoint, but I think this should be enough for now.

Here is the edited map.

I marked locations from the responses I got, corrected the Bonesborough’s location and added Looking Glass Ruins in the Forearm Forest.

Snowy Ribcage was mentioned also but I would assume that’s a larger area rather than a single location, so I didn’t mark it.

However I want to make a new more detailed and accurate map so Snowy ribcage will be included there.(We’ll see tho)

I now plan to rewatch the whole show, take more screenshots and try to find the location of more places.

Let’s map The Boiling Isles!

Bones are drawn for my Deadwardian Era Boiling Isles maps. Next step is to add land masses and water lines.

I may or may not have both a high tide and a low tide map.

I plan on ultimately rendering these to look like old 17th century maps, with etching largely being used for shading, so the linework is pretty fine, especially right now. Additionally, I’m doing this all on vector layers in Adobe Fresco; it will be easy to scale up for region-by-region.

Boiling Isles Map

While watching The Owl House I have wondered what would the map of the Boiling Isles look like.

So I drew it…

I didn’t give to much effort into making it look nice but it serves its purpose…

Here I marked some places I could guess the location of (not sure about Bonesborough-edit: it’s wrong it is on the right hand)

But here is when I would like to ask for help…

Foot and Leg!

The second of the three challenge areas is done. The areas I consider particularly challenging are ones that have significant non-human traits mixed with human anatomy. The third is the shoulder/wings. The tail will take some time, but it’s easy enough to modify the sacrum to add those.

I will be tweaking proportions and angles as I get everything put together and can better sense how center of gravity would affect the foot shape, but I am pretty happy with how this ended up. That foot is so weird. It’s a weird mix of human, bird (backwards toe) and dog. This would have been easier if the show didn’t have that damn backwards toe.

A lot of this is spawned from thoughts sparked by browsing @fantasy-anatomy-analyst for too long, and then applying my own engineering knowledge (structural engineering is my day job). Triangles are an efficient shape in terms of stability, and when I thought about the combination of the backwards toe and the elevated heel as a larger triangular base, it made more sense.

Consequently, I bulked out the “knuckles” of the metatarsals and shrunk down the calcaneus (heel bone). The calcaneus isn’t taking impact. The knuckles are.

The second fibula was easy enough to figure out. It’s doing the same thing as the typical fibula; providing lateral stability. This is stabilizing the joint at the back toe though.

Yes, I KNOW I could have just submerged both feet and not worried about it. I said in the last post that I have a problem.
