My parents and I have NEVER had a good relationship. Like NEVER. i have a lot of resentment towards them and have even been to therapy about it, they expect this like everlasting respect from me and I don’t get it, because they have NONE for me. I’ve always hated the double standards in our relationship and I’ve always hated that while I have 2 parents, who aren’t divorced, we are less connected than most people’s family I know. They tell me they don’t get why I can’t feel connected or open with them but it’s not something they ever fostered or cared about when I was growing up. You don’t just automatically care or trust a person after 19+ years of being told to be seen and not heard. I’m sorry to air this here but I have no one but my sister to vent about this to. It’s always been hard for me to open up to people and my walls are high and my relationship or lack there of with my parents is a large component of that.
