I’d like to know my mother is fine. For my hair to be played with when upset. A hug that presses inwards, and crushes. To be the embodiment of kindness. To learn and remember it. It’d be nice to be good with names, not to be two steps backwards. My friends are as ahead as they’ve always been.  Insects crawl towards the bitten fruit, browned around the edges. I swipe the nectar away from my mouth, where the mosquitoes have begun to swarm and scratch where it bleeds and itches. The sharpness clings to my mouth. I raise it to my mouth, biting to the core. It’s rattled poison. The edges blur.  I think, yearn, forget to pray. What others do with calloused knees, and bleeding hands, I carry on with a ball and chain. My legs are screaming. His arms are solid, as he reaches out to carry me. He comforts me as if I were a child, as I cry salt into his shirt. Forgiveness he presses into my sides. He has always loved me.
